This book wasn't bad, it was terribly unrealistic with the 11 year old santa, Stacey being a bridesmaid etc. However The Jeff line did make me laugh out loud. I often feel like that at family gatherings.

Once again, we have the same thoughts Loved the Jeff line and posted more about him in this book on the Jeff Schafer thread. I forgot to mention also that I liked Mrs. Barrett and Franklin's wedding (despite what it formalized and how Marnie ran up to her mom and Shannon ended up almost in the wedding procession and Stacey thought for a minute that Shannon was going to give Ryan to her. Always love funny moments in the BSC books.

The funniest thing in the book, IMO, is that classic picture of Mallory and Ben caroling. Teehee. I really liked this Super Special. It's not my favourite, but it's definitely enjoyable, and one I read a lot at Christmas time. Although, an 11-year-old acting as Santa? Pffft. At 11, a part of me was still hoping that Santa Claus existed.

^ It always REALLY surprised me how young the kids in the BSC books were when they stopped believing in Santa. Buddy Barrett is 8 and it's hinted that he doesn't, and most of the Pike kids don't. Neither do the younger Hobarts!

^ I actually don't remember really believing in Santa after I was about 5 but I still "believe" by pretending. Makes it more fun that way. ;D And most kids I know do believe in him (I was just very "wise" about things like that but still played along) until they are a lot older, so I was surprised, too. As for Jessi being Santa, that always seemed so stupid. My least favorite part of this one.

Ann mentions in her bio that she became wise to the whole Santa thing at a very young age, so maybe that's one reason the kids in the books are the way they are. I always wished there were more of them who believed, though. I believed for a looong time

^ Me, too! I wish Ann didn't have to overly-personalize the books so often. I started reading the books in grade 2, at which point I still believed in Santa. In many of the Christmas-themed books, the girls would mention how Santa isn't real. It bothered me as a kid to read that. Just because Ann stopped believing early doesn't mean every kid Stoneybrook had to stop believing early, too.

Now that I think about it, all the kids did stop believing in him awfully young. I was 9 when I finally asked my mom about santa.

I remember Mallory mentioning the only Pike who believes in Santa is Claire, and she's nearly put the pieces together. When I was in kindergarten, I didn't believe in Santa, but that was just because my parents put the presents under our tree long before Christmas Eve. I remember lots of my classmates telling me I was wrong, and it's not a huge stretch to think a lot of kids within the target age of the BSC books still believed. I wonder why AMM never got the flak Judy Blume did for blowing Santa's cover in her books

Just noticed a little goof in this book I had never noticed before. When Dawn gets back to Connecticut and the BSC members show up at her door, and Kristy asks "Where's the food?", this line follows it:
[/i] cried.[/quote]
Funny...I thought Jack was in Mexico with Carol. ;D

Is this supposed to be Richard? I can't remember much about this one except how foolish MA and Dawn were for thinking MA would be a bridesmaid. I never got that. I also remember loving Jeff's chapter at the wedding, though he usually drives me crazy.

It could be Richard, but Dawn never referred to him as "Dad" before, so I'm thinking it was yet another instance of careless proofreading.

^ Agree that it was just an editing mistake because I don't think Dawn would ever, ever call him dad. Just wondered what man the line was referring to (who was a possibility, even.) Since Kristy and Dawn were there I assumed it was Watson or Richard)
