I just finished rereading this one, and I've got acouple of comments:
- Is this the first book where Franklin, Mrs Barrett's boyfriend-fiance-husband is introduced? His last name in this is Harris, but in every other book it's DeWitt.
- Jessi the Super Sitter. Why was she so tired? Mary Anne and Stacey have both done the mother-s helper thing, and none of them were boasting about being a Super Sitter or anything like that. Was Mal so incompetent that Jessi had to do everything?
- Argh, Stacey was intolerable in this book!

Maybe Mrs. Barrett swithed boyfriends. Oh wait, the kids names are the same. INCONSISTENCY. Jessi was younger than MA and Stacey when she helped out. I know the BSC isn't suppose to consider age. You're right, Mary Anne never mentioned that she had to be a super sitter when she and Stacey did it. Oh, I want to go reread this one now.

^ Me toooo! This one isn't overly memorable - although who can forget the Toby-likes-Mallory plotline. He looked at her "appreciatively"?! COME ON. A sturdy eleven yr old with wild red hair and huge glasses is not usually the object of a supposedly cool 15 yr old's affection. Particularly when there are gorgeous blondes with looo-ooo-ooong silky hair and sparkling blue eyes running around. I had to laugh at Mallory's comment I was liking the way he was making me feel ... ew *gets mind out of gutter*

Oh god, Toby and Mallory! Hilarious. Remember that illustration of her standing on the porch waiting for him to come pick her up? And she's got all those pins stuck in her shirt! Stylish. I like how Stacey got semi-snarky in this book, wondering what Toby sees in Mal.
You know, my boyfriend is 3 years older than me but his birthday is 4 days before mine, so for 4 days he is "four years older" than me. We have always joked that it would have been hilarious if we'd met when we were younger and for 4 days he was 15 and I was 11. A 15 year old and an 11 year old is beyond inappropriete!
I've always really liked Sea City, Here We Come. I love the cover illustration, it's so cute.

Oh god, Toby and Mallory! Hilarious. Remember that illustration of her standing on the porch waiting for him to come pick her up? And she's got all those pins stuck in her shirt!. Hee! That picture wasn't my favorite though. I preferred the one where Mallory first met Toby and she's got her arms folded in this dibbly-chilly fashion.

hahah, yeah, arms folded mal, so cool. but toby was such a perve. and then asking about jessi at the end. god.
overall, this book is pretty boring. who cares about what the little kids think. no need to give them a whole chapter. and mrs barett was a b*tch, again. i hate that woman.

Word on Mrs Barrett. And could Margo's chapter have been anymore unnecessary?

"I found a tide pool and then charged people to see it and my brother laughed at me and told me it was a public pool. Oh, and Jessi is very smart (even though she's black)"
At least it was a short chapter!

Not to mention Margo was yet another all-caps kid. Ugh.

Okay, am I remembering incorrectly, or did one of the pins they bought for Mal have a picture of Stephen Hawking on it? Among others like Janis Joplin, etc.? And Claudia didn't know who any of them were but picked them because they looked dibble or something.

Yep, there was a Stephen Hawking one and a Janis Joplin one. There was also Virginia Woolf and Jimi Hendrix.

I'm currently re-reading this one. the pictures... the picture where Mal first meets Toby is hilarious. I love Mallory's loooong jean shorts. I love SS's cause of the pics I loved this book as a kid. I loved the whole surviving Hurricane Bill aspect.
