^ I think Toby was actually 15 in this book. Not sure how he aged while Stacey didn't, but oh well. I don't know that I'd go as far as thinking that Toby would be a predator. I could see him growing up to be a bit more....normal than that. He could have just had a lower maturity level than other boys his age during this book, which made younger girls a little more attractive. I was the same way, sort of. I always felt less mature than most people my age, and as a teenager, I tended to crush on guys who were a little bit younger than me. Not FOUR YEARS younger, but younger nonetheless. I'm definitely not a predator now. So, maybe there's hope for Toby!

He was also on vacation, and don't you tend to do things on vacation that you wouldn't necessarily do in real life? What happens in Sea City stays in Sea City!

Even though Mallory gets a lot of digs. Her first "date" was with a 15 year old boy. That's a pretty big check in the Mallory column. Would this count as her first date or would you count Ben?

^ Definitely Ben. They'd been to dances and the movies and things by this time, and I don't think they went as "just friends."

Maybe Toby turned out to be Mike "The Situation"? They're at the Jersey Shore after all I could have done without the boring Stoneybrook bits at the beginning. I noticed that the BSC also teaches you about really random stuff. For example, in this one, Lerangis really focused a lot on those hard boiled eggs! I feel like I know everything about them now. I used to have this poster up in my room while I was growing up. Actually, I think I probably still had it until I started high school. It was one of those posters from the BSC fan club that was double sided. Does anyone else remember it?

^ Don't remember the poster. I finished reading this one again last night, and I had to laugh. I used to think that the letter that Logan writes to Mary Anne after he goes back to Stoneybrook describing their lovely time in the haunted house was the most romantic thing ever. Now, it just seems cheesy and over the top, like the start of a bad romance novel scene.

^ There are all types of romance books. There is a very sweet romance novel called "All That Love is" by Ginger Chambers. It's the story of how a married couple fall back in love while trapped for their lives in a snowstorm for a few days. It was beautifully written and not at all racy. I always do wish we had known what exactly Mrs. Kishi was reading. I think if Claudia had caught her their following conversation might have been priceless both for us and them! Maybe then, finally, Mrs. K might have at least listened to Claudia about why she enjoys Nancy Drew books--something non academic, I mean.

^ And the now, ever-so popular and slightly dark "50 Shades of Grey" brings a new meaning to romance novels

(tsking Starry night for knowing what bad romance novel scene is like!) Haha, I don't actually read romance novels myself. I'm basing that mostly on parodies and other things that make fun of them.

This book sorta made me sad this time around given the hurricane that just hit the jersey shore. Sea city reminds me so much of the summers i spent at the shore with my family.
I do love the sea city books but this didn't really feel like a sea city book since half of it was I. Stoneybrook but oh well I still enjoy the parts that are at sea city.

^Yeah, I get bored during the Stoneybrook chapters of books that mostly take place somewhere other than Stoneybrook.

^ Bwahahahaha. Me too! Glad I'm not the only one.
I thought the hurricane chapters were really exciting. Reminds me of the most recent storms (i.e. Hurricane Sandy).

as a teenager, I tended to crush on guys who were a little bit younger than me. That's awesome because I've always tended to like younger guys too. A lot of people thought it was weird so it's awesome to hear somebody else say the same thing.

^I did like a couple of younger guys when I was in high school - one I wound up dating for 4 years! But ever since, I turned to older men - including my husband who is almost 5 years older than me.
