For some reason, this one is snarked ALL the time. Probably because of such classic scenes such as Mallory dying to know what goes on when a boy and girl kiss, Stacey being turned on by Pierre's sexy breaking voice and Jessi automatically assuming little "Pinky" is racist. What else do you guys remember about this book?

Jessi was an idiot. Man, that girl seems to be annoying in a lot of Super Specials... I remember Claudia and the ski instructor, and the rivalry between her and Kristy. I loved this book, just because there was so much snow stuff in it. Snow's a bit of a novelty around here

Jessi gives herself a big part in the talent show and finally feels as if her classmates accept her (read: think she's talented). Six super specials later, and she's desperate to prove herself/talent yet again. Because you know, acting like you're better than other people will make them forget about what color you are.
Kind of weird that Claudia's supposed to be this awesome skier, yet we never hear about it any other time.
I loved how no one could even tell what Jessi's and Mal's ice sculpture was. Subtle bit of snark.
I think one of the best/worst parts are Mary Anne's "letters" to Logan. Cringe-worthy and hilarious.

Claudia's skiing is mentioned in Super Mystery #2... Apart from those two books, I can't think of any others.

Jessi had a lot of undesirable characteristics, come to think of it. She could be very snarky and bitchy toward Mallory especially. Yeah, I know - but Mallory was her best friend. I hated, hated, hated her in Starring the BSC.

I was so bored by this book. They get to go on a ski trip with their entire school, but they spend the entire week baby-sitting? I'd be pissed!

^ they CHOSE to spend the week babysitting. Kristy made the scarily-obsessive comment "kids come first where we're concerned"

The super mystery I mentioned has mentions of Kristy skiing, but in the the super mystery, Abby and Claudia are the two super good skiers.

Just finished re-rereading this one (because I'm going in order). Here are my thoughts: -Claudia thinks Guy the handsome older ski instructor is in love with her after she has one lesson with him and he calls her his star pupil. That's called flattery dumbass. -I do agree it's weird for Claud to be a champion skier. However, it does add something else to her character. Or it would if it were mentioned more than twice. -Why was MA so depressed over being apart from Logan for only 5 days? She'd spent 2 whole weeks apart from him at Camp Mohawk (except for twice) and at Sea City (oh, but there she had Alex). I understand she was worried about L cheating on her. So, I guess it's okay for MA to cheat on Logan but Logan can't cheat on MA? -Speaking of Camp Mohawk, what is up with the references to it in this book? There is one reference to B's on Board, but like, every other page is referring to Camp. -Yet, another Stacey in LUV plot. Soooo booooring. I'm glad there wasn't more of it. -These girls are entirely too serious about there love interests. Claudia's daydreams about Guy were not something I would expect from a 13 year old. Too adult. All the I Love You's were far too serious. These girls' relationships start and end in a week and it's always Love You Forever. Maybe that's typical of 13 year olds, but not when I was that age in the early '90's. MA and Logan's seriousness is discussed in another thread so I won't go into it here. -I could totally see Mallory freaking out about the dance. I can completely relate. -I don't care if Jay What's-His-Face broke his ankle. -Jessi needs to get over herself. But, I do like the fact that she said she learned something and that she would TALK about it WITH HER FAMILY. Huge for a BSC book! -The ghost thing was just thrown in and summed up really fast and was boring anyway. As was MA's project about the history of the lodge. As were her chapters in general they were all about writing one thing or another. -Kristy would've gotten the broken bones if I had been a BSC member and she volunteered me to work (for free) on my vacation. -Wouldn't adding 6 more (albeit older) kids to the scene of an accident that already contained 16 traumatized ones just add to the mayhem? -The book talks about the Conway Cove kids like those kids are just wandereing around alone. Who's watching them? It never mentions any teachers being with them and at times it describes the BSC as doing things on their own or with just a few kids.

I would never bring along 5 13-year-olds and 2 11-year-olds in that situation. I think they said there were two teachers, both of whom were injured? I think one of them could sometimes watch the kids indoors.

In regards to Mary Anne being so worried about Logan with another girl -- she's probably just worried he might do something that she would do! I mean, she can't go to Sea City without falling in luv with Alex all over again, so... But yeah, she was freakishly dramatic about the whole thing. It was kind of amusing, though.

I love when the BSC goes on the rescue mission and Kristy steps forward and is all, "We'll take care of the kids. Me and my friends. We're the Baby-Sitters Club!" and that settles everything.
And yet...she continues to accuse others of racism, including her best friend, every chance she gets. It's the same with Dawn who "learns" that maybe she's not the individual she claims to be. Both Jessi and Dawn have these big revelations about themselves, then prompty forget in time for the next book.

That's not nearly enough chaperones for a trip like this. That'd be eight kids per teacher. Plus why did these poor, underpriviledged kids have to earn a trip that apparently couldn't be rescheduled while the rich bitches of Stoneybrook got to go every single year for free? Nofe-air!

I assumed SMS paid for the trip. But I don't see why the Conway Cove trip couldn't be rescheduled after such a traumatizing event. You'd think the kids would want to be with their parents and vice versa.
