The one thing that annoyed me about the book was the BSC sitting for the 'racist' Conway Cove brats. Shame they weren't sent home after the bus accident. Like we need to here about more baby-sitting on vacations. Luckily, Ann catches on to this in Shadow Lake, when Kristy wants to advertise for the BSC there and a sitter points out that it is their vacation.

But I don't see why the Conway Cove trip couldn't be rescheduled after such a traumatizing event. You'd think the kids would want to be with their parents and vice versa. But then the BSC wouldn't have the dibbly fresh experience of babysitting for strange kids on their vacation!!

^ I honestly think Ann assumed the readers would be upset if they read a Baby-sitters Club book with no baby-sitting Uh, no.

Exactly...who reads if for the baby-sitting. It's all about snark here

^ What does "snark" mean? Is it one of the BSC words like "dibbley" because I don't remember ever coming across it.

^ snark is like an online word for making fun of something, bitching about it, but in a good humored way. At least, that's my interpretation.

So I must have missed this thread...I love winter so have always loved this one. The drama of when the bus rams into an embankment (morbid?), MA sitting in armchairs being all pathetic and moony, Kristy and Claudia competition, Jessi and racism, etc...love it all.
But of course gotta mention the part where MA's narrating the chapter on the bus ride home and the boys are making fun of fat girl Ethel Tines. It was harsh, and most of all, quite random. What was the point? And no ghostwriter...nice, Ann.

I remember reading that it's a portmanteau of "snide" and "remark"

I don't see why the Conway Cove trip couldn't be rescheduled after such a traumatizing event. You'd think the kids would want to be with their parents and vice versa. I just assumed that they couldn't get out. If the weather was so bad that their bus crashed getting there, it'd be just as bad as a trip home. I can't really see the benefit of sending them straight home because: 1) The kids are already traumatized enough without being shoved BACK onto the bus that just crashed. 2) Didn't they have to send out the lodge bus to get the kids? So wouldn't the bus need some kind of repairs? 3) The teachers needed medical attention so were sent to the hospital. 4) Lots and lots of snow on bad rural roads. Awesome. So once they're there for at least the night or two nights, then why not just stay the rest of the trip?

This was definitely my least favourite SS and I hardly remember any of it. There was one part that really thrilled me though and that was when Stacey first met Pierre (that's his name, right?) He says he's from a place near Canada. "Wow, Canada. Are you French Canadian?" "No. We're French French." I really wish he could have been a French Canadian. That would have totally made another Stacey-falls-in-love plot worthwhile!

I love the bit in this where Stacey thinks Pierre's voice changing is *so cool*... Hehe.
