I was surprised that middle schoolers were in charge of making the costumes... wouldn't they not be very good? In our school, when we do musicals, it's generally adults making the costumes... Also I keep thinking about mal making those 'clown' costumes in the Baby Parade then forgetting to make some for the BSC :s

^I agree, shouldn't a professional or at least someone with some costume-making experience be in charge of that?! Instead of Mallory Pike?!

Seriously. No sense at all...and the way she fantasizes about sitting in a room backstage at a sewing machine surrounded by material...haha, please.

These books wouldn't be fun if they were realistic. hehe
This book had so many unrealistic things in it...but I didn't care.

^ If I had been a costume person, I totally would have had that fantasy.

Wasn't Mallory the costume assistant?
I can totally understand a eleven year old girl (expecially one who is often shy) being afraid to measure a gorgeous high school boy.

I really love how this board censored that.

Every time I went on the Peter Pan ride at Disney I couldn't stop thinking about this book. I kept saying "mutiny" when riding through the pirate scenes and thought of Jackie every time I saw John and Michael. It's funny how I'm relating everything to the BSC lately. I think I like both the ride and book more now

haha... I have yet to read most of teh topics on this board ( I dont have much time) but i thought i'd put in my memories of this book, because it was one of the first BSC books I remember reading. When I first read this book, I was raeding the Cokie chapter, and you know the drawing in the book where they're all crowded around the bulletin board looking at the cast list... i swear, from that picture, I got this picture of Cokie being ASIAN....I thought she was Claudia in the picture, and that image stuck with me for a long time.

Without a doubt, this is my favourite Super Special. Yes, it's completely unrealistic, but that's what makes it so great! I think, though, that my favourite part was the few chapters of the auditions and when the parts were posted. Jessi was so dramatic, snorting like a horse and all, that I used to read those chapters over and over again when I was younger. Didn't Alan Grey get to be Smee? If so, I would've loved to have seen that. Logan complaining about being Noodler the pirate? Come on, Loges, at least Noodler was an actual character in the book/play (I think he was the one with his hands on backwards). That's much better than being random pirate #3 in the background, IMO, even if your name is Noodler. I agree with those of you who have commented on Mal's embarassment. If I was a dorky 11-year-old, and I had to measure a super hot 17 year old boy, I'd be embarrassed, too. I also like the part with Claudia freaking out over her scenery falling and killing someone. And of course, she just happens to watch a Broadway documentary in which that happens. Oh, I love this book! I need to re-read it. And get a new copy, mine is almost in two pieces now.

Oh I love that part too! She's like "Oh my lord, what if that happens tonight?? I don't want to be responsible for killing Kristy!" Also love when she's like "What if all the lights go out and there's chaos??" And Stacey's all "The school has an emergency generator." fluffycakes, my copy of New York, New York! is in two pieces. I also can't find the back cover to Snowbound...I read the SSs sooo much when I was young

^ Totally agree! Anyone could tell which BSC books I didn't like as much as the others, because of the fact it's in good condition. The ones I love - like Starring the BSC - are falling apart or have fallen apart already.
I wonder why they didn't make it an SMS production, with SES kids coming in to play the roles of the Lost Boys/Indians? I mean, why bother with the high school kids? I guess so Stacey and Sam could have their plot, but they could've worked around that. Like, maybe Stacey really likes the SMS guy playing Mr. Darling, and she falls in LUV, but feels bad because she LUVes Sam? Or maybe Sam becomes uber-jealous, and he starts spying on her at rehearsals, or something. I don't know. I don't even know why I care so much, especially because I actually think Stacey-Sam plot was cute. But I guess the actual point I was trying to make was that, with the exception of Capt. Hook and Sam, SHS wasn't involved with the play at all.

^ I was always surprised that SHS wasn't more involved but I guess that's because there aren't many characters from there in the books. I think it would have been interesting to have Janine and Charlie involved somehow.
