I wasn't sure either but it is very tricky:
Stacey is the "sophisticated" one, so she could be the blonde putting on the nail polish. But then again, Stacey would eat popcorn instead of other junk food, so that could be her too, and I think the girl with the popcorn looks a little more like Shannon inside the book cover before her story.

^ Is it lame that it slightly bothers me that I can't tell You've given good cases on both facts, and another way that it's annoying is that either one could technically be either one.

To me, the one putting on nail polish looks like Shannon, and the other one is Stacey, going by past book covers.

Since I'm checking out book covers, I just looked at "Surfer Ghost," I looked at this one. I think Supprazz may be right. I really don't think either girl looks like her character. I just think Stacey is more likely to hang out by Claudia and Shannon nearer Kristy. Though why the popcorn is so far away from Claudia...

I really have to reread this book. It's been ages since I last read it. I forgot that Shannon was on the cover of this one, since usually in a group picture the two blondes will be Stacey and Dawn. I'm glad there's another cover with Shannon on it, since I like her a lot.

I've always thought that the one having her hair braided is Stacey, and the one putting on nail polish is Shannon. I guess I think this way since Claud and Stacey are best friends so they would be likely to do closer activities like styling each other's hair, and the one doing her nails is just kinda exuding an expression and attitude that I associate more with Shannon. Plus Shannon is ultimately the least connected to the group, and the one doing her nails is more off to the side observing the group, whereas everyone else is kind of together and interacting.

Not to be a critical Virgo but I really dislike that picture of Stacey then. It's really un-Stacey-like to me.

Now that I think of it, the picture of Shannon on Sister War does look slightly similar to the picture of Shannon in BSC Remember. So that kind of makes me feel better

Also I think someone said that the girl polishing her nails looks a lot like the illustration of Shannon in her chapter--definitely agreed.
Her hair is thicker and shorter on Sister War, I think.
The Remember cover is so cute. I really like Claudia on it...green is a good color for her.

Not lame at all, I couldn't figure out for years. I wonder if that nail polish came from the home shopping show Stacey watches. So either Stacey is the one putting on nail polish, or her friends are truly nothing like Laine and like her makeup

I liked this book more during this re-read. I liked Mary Anne's chapter but I kind of got the sense that Ann realized the book might read to heavy - with the bed-wetting, divorces, crying, mean teachers and crying babies - that she put in a funny story at the end (or it was edited that way) to lighten things up a bit.
I wish Shannon's chapter was about something different. I kind of felt Ann put it in as an explanation for her behaviour in Kristy and the Snobs, which was fine. I guess Ann wanted to literally explain "2 sides to every situation".
Does anyone else notice that Ann likes to make older men or boys either be interested or obsessed with characters? (Logan in this case.) He was really excited about Mary Anne, haha. I wonder if she thinks this is something young girls aspire to - having older boys after them. Is this true?
Dawns was just sad. As was Staceys. Cheers to the Ramseys for putting up with a colicy baby. They deserve a present.
The best part of this book = Caludia. SO GOOD.
