I am enjoying our discussion at the end of the European Vacation thread babysittersclub.proboards.com/thread/570/european-vacation?page=14&scrollTo=138151 about parents having chapters or scenes in books. I thought that would be fun to discuss in greater detail. I recently reread Karen's Lemonade Stand. It was Mr. Rodowsky, a character we rarely if ever hear much from, who suggested that all the kids get together and have a fair with their various stands to raise money for new bleachers. I would have enjoyed reading about him talking with SES and other parents about that. I would think all the kids involved must have had one planning meeting before the fair, too. From Snowbound and Christmas Chiller, it seemed like Richard and Sharon might be closer to the Pikes than we know. I would imagine they talked with Mal's parents prior to any Sea City trips. For some reason I never thought about any of the girls ever talking with Dee the way I can easily do so with Mrs. Newton and Mrs. Rodowsky but that could be because we are told of those. I wish MA had enjoyed some pie in Sea City with Dee and John when they offered it to her in Sea City, I thought that was really sweet and could see them all talking. Since Dee was on the library board she must have some relationship with Claud's mom and that could have developed Rioko's character more. Maybe also helped Claudia to talk with her with her own mom.
I wish there had been more behind the scenes in Snowbound. I do think Mr. Perkins should have called Claud's parents and asked them to at least watch Laura overnight. I had the thought again the other day that Ms. Colman lives way out in the country, maybe even near the Vansants (friends of Mr. and Mrs. Perkins) or the Schiavones. How cool it would have been had Stacey and her mom spent the night with either of them! The Schiavones were wonderful and I do wish we had gotten to read about them coming to dinner at Stacey's. I just meant what a cool new twist it would have been had Stacey and Maureen stayed with someone they already knew. I always hope Jeff did talk with his dad when he was at the hotel in DC.
I love Karen's Sleigh Ride and Karen's Christmas Tree when her neighbors (from big and little house neighborhoods) all join together to support the Stones and Druckers. There could have easily been one adult chapter in those books. Thinking about Christmas, how sweet it would have been had the client parents (I know Mrs. Arnold gave Kristy a tin of cookies in Empty House) ever all signed cards for all the girls as a thank you. Loved how Mr. Braddock amnd don't remember who else helped the kids organize the Rosebud ice cream treat in Claudia's Friend. Extra scenes to give us more Stoneybrook.
