Anyone have Halloween plans yet for this year? I'll be in Vegas during Halloween, so that should be interesting. I don't have anything specific planned, but I'm sure there will be plenty going on! I'd like to dress up, not necessarily for the entire day, but going out at night in costume would be fun.

I decided a few days ago that I would like to carve a pumpkin this year, which I haven't done in over 20 years. No other plans. I just found out that my sister is moving apartments that weekend, so there's the possibility of helping to move and listening to her complain.
^I'm not a big Halloween fan either, Greer. If I did have young children in my life that would be different and it is so cute to see kids dressed up. I always hope they enjoy a safe and good time. I probably will get a small pumpkin and just decorate it instead of carve--I'd rather not smell it, probably also too hot. Halloween though will always be special to me because I know people who do enjoy it and a lot of it is about candy which my Grandma so very much LOVED. Plus November 1st is her birthday I hope all of you will get to enjoy some treats. I am editing this to add a BSC memory I just had regarding Halloween that always will make me laugh and smile is Jamie wanting to dress up as a trick or treat bag so people could just directly feed him candy. I can imagine if he had done that, Claudia volunteering to accompany him, she could have been a pumpkin pail? Oh and I thought Andrew had a Kristy-caliber Halloween idea when he suggested to Karen that they trick or treat in both their neighborhoods. It would have been sweet in general had Jamie and Andrew become friends but if they had bonded over how to get the most candy, that could have made for a funny and cute story, too.

Haha, in which book did Jamie say that?
I love Halloween, and October in general, since my birthday is a few days before the holiday. My mom's b-day is on Halloween. I always watch my favorite spooky movies, read themed books, etc. My sister told me there was going to be a Twilight Zone marathon at some place in her area at the end of the month, so I'm bummed I can't be there for it as it would have been a great b-day activity for me! I don't know if I'll dress up, I get lazy on that part
I've been at work on my children's costumes already, which turns out to have been a wise idea. My husband suggested that all three should be owls, which will be very cute. But it means basting countless little felt feathers to their brown shirts (or jumper, in Josie's case) and figuring out some kind of wings.
^It's on page 22 of MA Breaks the Rules where Jamie wants to be a trick or treat bag. Doc1.docx (45.96 KB)I apologize for the text being so small. I did try scanning both this page and the next one. I got the error that the file was too big. I uploaded to Shutterfly and cropped off the second page and was able to copy/paste into a document that way.
For some reason I am thinking Andrew wanting to trick or treat in both neighborhoods was in Karen's Pumpkin Patch but I could be making that up!

I love Halloween but I haven't done much over the past few years to celebrate because of my second job. However, I have already purchased my first bag of Hallowe'en candy - the kind with Almond Joys, Whoppers and Milk Duds in them. Claudia would definitely approve!

For most of my life, there have been a lot of candy bars that I've dismissed as "gross candy only old people buy", and Almond Joys (along with Mounds; both involve shredded coconut) were one kind. But in the past year, I've discovered that I LOVE Almond Joys and Mounds. I was missing out!
