I would not have minded if they kept the original locations and names and stuff. There wouldn't be a thousand people with the same name, locations would make more sense and the names they make up in the translations are really, really old fashiones, so they don't make it any more accesible.

I think this was discussed at the old site--but the time elapse between buying the tickets, winning, claiming the money, and going to CA is extremely impossible. Um, not to mention that some adult has to claim the winnings on his or her taxes. Oh, and the fact that the girls would not collect 10,000....but more like 7,000. Still a grand a piece, but still.
Mallory hate in California Girls... Mallory bought a plane ticket, hair dye, makeup and ended up with less than 7 dollars after a few days out in CA? Did she buy that expensive makeup with diamond and gold dust in it that JLo uses or something? And wouldn't she feel compelled in some way to have some of her own money for meals (when they went out), or is she expecting to be covered by Dawn's dad and/or Jessi the entire time there?
I also think it's hilarious that she got all glam and ready to go to Universal when she knew she didn't have enough for admission. She had to mooch from Jessi. And again when they went to Six Flags at the end. And I would never buy used makeup from Mallory. I don't think makeup specified for Mallory (pale complexion, red hair) would work for Claudia and Stacey.

All of which proves that the Pikes weren't crazy for forbidding Mallory to wear sparkles. Two seconds on her own and she blows all her money on makeup. On the other hand, maybe all that pent up desire for glitter finally let loose on smart, rational Mallory.

And wouldn't she feel compelled in some way to have some of her own money for meals (when they went out), or is she expecting to be covered by Dawn's dad and/or Jessi the entire time there? I was wondering kind of the same thing recently when I was rereading SS#1 and Dawn says that she has only two dollars left after buying the unicorn charm. Is she planning not to eat for the next two days, or just to have other people pay for her food? Food at Disney World isn't cheap.

I hope Richard doesn't get wind of this...he'd have Mary Anne back in braids in no time! i.e. "See, Mary Anne? This is what happens when a girl gets a taste of life outside of knee socks..."

They do go to Vermont. I guess they picked Switzerland because they're both ski destinations, and it also goes with Claudia being a fabulous skier, which I only recall being mentioned in Baby-sitters Beware. Yay, continuity!

Carol says in this book that her job is flexible because she's a painter. A painter of what? For what? Way to be vague, Carol...

I ALWAYS wondered if she meant a painter as in artist or a painter as in houses.

You would think that if she was an artist, there would have been some plot action with her and Claudia bonding over their shared interest, but who knows?

^That's true. I always assumed she meant an artist, but Claud prob would've been all over her.

Oh, but Carol was sketching in a pad when they all went to the beach in one chapter. That would have been prime time for something art-related between them to come up. But then Claudia spotted Terry.

Boys trump art in BSC world, I guess.

It would have been cool to see Carol bond with one of the BSC members. How would Dawn have reacted?

I agree, it would have been cool to see Carol and Claudia bond over art. Dawn would have flipped out. That would have been cool too.
