Hi, I had a couple thoughts/questions about Watson's mansion (Kristy's house). Did they have a pool? I thought that would be quite common for most mansions that I've seen as a tourist or on TV shows. Or did it just have lots of rooms and was a bit old fashioned/almost antique like as it had a massive library if I remember correctly? I always had trouble envisioning the mansion even though they often referred to it. It just seemed odd to me. Does anyone have any opinions/ ideas on what Watson's mansion looked like? How would you interpret it from the books? Maybe there was more info in the Little Sisters books but I didn't read enough of those. (Sorry if there's already a thread about this).

No pool. The only people with a pool were the Delaneys/later Kormans. It's an old house, and houses weren't built with pools back then, so I guess if no one wanted to put one in, there's no pool. I would look at the old houses here mobile.sothebysrealty.com/eng/sales/princeton-nj-usa since Stoneybrook is based on Princeton during Ann's childhood.

Thanks Greer! That real estate link is super helpful. I can basically picture the neighbourhood now, including the Korman's pool :-). The movie also didn't do it much justice but I'm guessing it would have been filmed in California so different styles.

The TV series was filmed in New Jersey, so it's a more accurate depiction of Stoneybrook.

I think the beginning of Kristy and the Snobs said that Watson didn't have a swimming pool but was thinking about putting one in. I haven't read the end of the series but I'm assuming that didn't happen. Maybe he did a few years later though.
I also remember the kitchen looking like an old fashioned country kitchen (maybe with a long table) but with modern conveniences. Kristy loved it for that reason.

I liked seeing them and imagining them in Stoneybrook!

This one has 9 bedrooms but I found that it is in New York somewhere. Bonus it is Victorian because wasn't the mansion supposed to be old?

Yes, I believe your correct. Ause used be Karen's Great grandfathers old mansion. That's what I understood, anytime it was mention in the books.

I thought the same thing, Greer! Mrs. Porter's was always described as an old Victorian.

I've been thinking lately just how old Watson's mansion is. Did we discuss once that Watson maybe 45 or so? Elizabeth was 37 in KGI. Lisa maybe 32 or even younger? Seth 35ish? Even if Watson is 45, say Grandma Brewer is at most 70, possibly a bit younger. Maybe Jeremy Brewer Watson's dad was 75? Old Ben Brewer is he were also alive might be 100. I realize we don't know if Ben and his family had always lived in the mansion or also if any family had predated them. I just never realized how old the Brewer Home may very well be. All this as me curious and wishing more, that the BSC had better explored other older homes besides Dawn and MA's and yes found out more about the farmhouse's history, too. I still say there must have been at least one other stop on the Underground RR in Stoneybrook, it would have been so cool had it been a neighbor of Dawn's. Heritage Day in MA and the Secret in the Attic and also Karen's Field Day with the ancestry reports could have had some added Stoneybrook past family flair.
ETA: I know it was said Watson's mansion had 9 bedrooms. To me those were always on the second floor, maybe one on the first. We know Ben Brewer had his room on the third floor. I imagine Watson's home to have closer to double the bedrooms and so very many bathrooms, too. We know it had four floors and originally the entire house may have been actively used and lived in!

Some of the 9 were on the third floor, supposedly, but then there were 7 bedrooms for family members and I'm sure they mentioned a guest room.

I remember Kristy telling us that she and her siblings each had their own room, all 7. Nannie's room could have been on the main floor but I have always thought of all the main bedrooms (being used) ere on the 2nd floor. Also in I think Kristy's Big Day, Kristy tells us that Sam and Charlie will not only have their own rooms but could if they asked nicely have site of rooms. I realize Kristy may have been exaggerating. I think the rooms may have been something the writers didn't put much time into planning. They did mention a guest room and I am almost positive Kristy said guest rooms (maybe in Snowbound, not sure). As for bathrooms, that seemed very strange and poorly planned to me, though I understand older homes didn't always have as many rooms including bathrooms. It sounded like Sam, Charlie, and Kristy shared one bathroom and the 4 younger kids another! To me, in a mansion!, it would make much more sense if there were at least 2 bathrooms between Charlie, Sam, and Kristy. David Michael and Andrew could share as could Karen and Emily. Nannie along with Watson and Elizabeth would have their own (2) bathrooms and then at least 1 for the 2 guest rooms. And this only on the second floor! If the third and fourth floors at one time were living quarters they had to have had at least one bathroom each and of course on the main first floor too. In other words a gigundo house!
