Laine and her parents were pretty cool in this book, being all right with four extra girls staying in their apartment (including Mal and Jessi, for heaven's sake ). Don't know what was up with Dawn's fear of going out...you'd think if Mary Anne could handle it, an individual could too. Well, it's nice she made a friend (Richie) and she had a nice tour of the city. Claudia and Mallory's adventures at Falny were pretty funny, and it gave them each opportunities for some personal growth. And the Harringtons...uh, why wouldn't the parents give their babysitters a little heads-up that the kids had a bodyguard that would be following them around all day? Jessi and Quint...that was certainly a whirlwind romance. And Quint is something else, 11 years old and going to Julliard! Oh, and I still absolutely love the illustrations in this book. So cute.

Question about Stacey and NYC. Did she or any of the club members ever go to the World Trade Center on any of their trips? Cause that'd be kinda creepy to read about now.

^ MA quoted some statistics on the World Trade Center, which was very weird. But I don't think they visited it.

In the Friends Forever series, where Stacey's dad gets engaged, they celebrate by having dinner at one of the restaurants at the WTC (Windows of the World, or something?). But no, I don't think they go to the WTC in this one.
Heh, this SS will forever be known as the one where the incredibly passionate Jessi/Quint romance begins...

^ haha, gotta love the Jessi/Quint thing. When he tipped her chin and kissed her gently by the elevators. And to think! These kids are a whole year older than the Pike triplets who still play hide and seek!

And the same age as Tiffany Kilbourne who gets sent home with notes from teachers and has to have a baby-sitter!

Dawn being too scared to venture out of the apartment was so unrealistic. Mary Anne can brave the streets, so why can't she? Jessi randomly meeting Quint at the ballet... random, again. Claudia REALLY bugged me in this book. She was so mean to Mallory... it's not Mallory's fault that the teacher was being nicer to her than Claud!

Maybe she's the cause of the time warp in Stoneybrook. She can't decide what age she wants to be, so everyone else is stuck repeating the same year over and over again.

Claudia was such a freaking b*tch in this book! I hated her! She was so mean to Mallory and then of course in the end we find out that the teacher is being hard on Claudia because she's just sooo talented and he wants her to live up to her potential. And as soon as Claudia realizes that, she starts being nice to Mal again.. grrr. It really bugged me that Mallory forgave her so easily. Dawn and Richie annoyed me because it was just another one of those vacation boyfriends who never shows up again. I swear, these girls can't travel more than 5 miles outside of Stoneybrook without landing a hot new boyfriend.

I liked the Claudia/Mallory chapters. Claudia was so angry in hers and Mallory was completely oblivious like "I think Claudia's pissed off or something but I need to drawn some more mice."
I wonder why Dawn kept going to NY if she was so afraid each time. She could have stayed home and had her pick of sitting charges. How did Stoneybrook survive the BSC vacations?

Yeah, the Twin Towers were mentioned when they went on the ferry ride. Mary Anne was talking over the actual guide and they told her to shut up or something, and she started murmuring about the WTC to herself.
lol that's what I loved about it.
They should have included some of Mal's sketches of her field mice like they did with Claud and the Cloisters and Central Park and stuff.

Dawn and Richie annoyed me because it was just another one of those vacation boyfriends who never shows up again. I swear, these girls can't travel more than 5 miles outside of Stoneybrook without landing a hot new boyfriend. And this one came directly to her door! For someone who was so terrified and cautious, she certainly wasn't afraid to trust a total stranger. I think they wanted a token "scared of NYC" character but also the tourist type. MA was considered more dorky than Dawn and more likely to be the type to recite boring facts and figures no one cares about (actually, I could see Mallory in that role too, but they obviously wanted her for the Falny plot) whereas Dawn was considered a more "hippy" type who might feel overwhelmed in the city.

Dawn's never portrayed as a chicken anywhere else, though. She did seem a bit OOC in this book. Re: Ritchie as the boyfriend - there was never romance between them, was there? I guess it's sort of alluded to at the end, in the letters, but their relationship always struck me as being more platonic.
Word on Claudia! Why must she be so talented?

I have never been bothered by Mary Anne's touristy tendencies. I'd find all her facts to be fascinating! I always thought they were a bit harsh on her about that.
