^Me too. She actually ate some of Claudia's "toxic" candy.

Not my favorite but I like it pretty well. Always love reading about NYC and the places they visit. The Harrington kids sound so cute! I also liked Dawn and Richie and even didn’t mind Claudia and Mal’s chapters, though I usually can’t stand reading about Claud’s artwork and art classes. Didn’t mind Jessi and Quint, either, probably because I like him and his family – even in Jewel Thieves. Only chapters that really bugged me were Kristy’s, since I can’t stand dogs and just couldn’t relate. I know I would never have had the nerve to actually hide a dog in someone else’s house. I actually think that’s really rude (not sure if that is the right word for it). If I was Laine’s parents, I would have been furious. It’s a good thing pets were allowed in the building, though Kristy obviously didn’t care about that. I know all of the pet lovers will disagree with me on this so I won’t say any more but just my thoughts on the matter ;D The thing about the “mysterious men” also bugged me a bit because it semed so obvious and is really overused as a plot in kids’ books. It’s in about three Boxcar Children books that I can think of but they probably stole the plot from the BSC since I think this SS came first ;D Anyway, I always enjoy this one when I’m in a “NYC” mood. Wish I could go there someday and see all the things that they do.

^ You should go if you ever get the chance. Reading about New York in all the Stacey books made me want to go there one day really badly. I got to go for my 18th birthday and twice during college and I just love it there. Would love to live there, but I don't think that's ever going to happen.

Likewise I'd love to go to New York! Have never been there before or to the states at all... Would love to see NYC for Broadway Theatre in particular, I'm a theatre geek

^ I'm thinking about going next summer. But we'll see. Too many good places to go and not enough time and $. ;D Maybe I can win the lottery like the BSC in California Girls - even if this wasn't very plausible, it was a nice thought ;D

^ I know. I want to go back at least one more time to hit all the places I've missed before.

I just want to go to New York period. Whenever I read a super special I always want to go to the places they go. I am so jealous of them! hehe

Y'all should come to NYC at the same time and we can arrange a BSC tour! Sadly, Sign of the Dove is gone.

A real live Super Special - let's just hope it wouldn't end up like Stacey's Mistake ;D

^ Agreed! And word about Mallory being an endearing freak. Like the drawing of the mice. It's totally snarkable, but really cute at the same time. I'm not the biggest Mallory fan, but she was pretty cute in this book. I felt badly for her when Claud was being so awful to her. Poor Mallory, sometimes it seems like her mere existence pisses off the older BSC members...at least in super specials.

^ Mal can be really obnoxious in some of the Super Specials - CA Girls is a good example. But she wasn't bad at all in this one. It always bugged me how Claudia was so obviously jealous in many cases and took it out on other people. Guess Mal was her target in NYC since Janine - her usual favorite target - wasn't there.

Claudia's claws certainly came out when she thought her talents -- art and skiing -- were in danger of being threatened. Like when Abby brags about being a good skier in Babysitters' Beware, and Claudia gets all pouty and rude and refuses to ride in the same car with her. She's also pretty good at the "sewing arts", embroidery and stuff that she shares with Mary Anne, but it's not an issue with them I don't think -- might be because she's closer and more sensitive to her, and vice versa. I love the part in BSC in the USA when they keep each other company at the Art Institute.
