What was Sign of the Dove? Stacey's favorite restaurant. She mentioned her father taking her there a few times.

Me, too. I've always liked the Kristy/Claudia and MA/Claudia friendships.

I've always liked those, too, and felt kind of bad for Claud that she always seemed like the outsider of the 3 that grew up together. Didn't Kristy and Jessi spend some time together in this book, too? I always like reading about the younger girls hanging out with the older ones.

^ Yeah, Jessi was with Kristy when she found Sonny.
I've noticed that Claudia was an outsider among the three friends, too, but I always thought she was more okay with that than either of the other two would have been if they had been the outsider. Claud seemed to be more of an individual, with her own life to keep her busy. On the other side, though, she confessed that she'd never had a best friend before Stacey when Stacey moved back to New York, so maybe there was more loneliness there than we see?

I always thought Claud might have been okay with being an outsider, though, not because she was more of an individual (she actually seems like the kind who needs constant social approval) but just because she was so much different than MA and Kristy. I actually can't see much independence on Claud's part. I think she did feel bad about being an outsider, too, but was just used to it and accepted it (if that makes sense)

^ No, it makes sense. I can sort of see Claud as a bit of a loner, but prefers to be around others most of the time. I think the art thing has something to do with that. She spends a lot of time in the books, alone, creating some art project, so it's something she's used to. That, along with being the odd man out in her childhood trio adds up to a lot of alone time. She seemed to be really grateful when her best friend came along, but she does still seem to spend some time alone. I dunno, it's not something I've thought of, until now!

I agree. I think she's always dealt with loneliness, and confidence issues--feeling like the perpetual oddball in her family, the loss of Mimi. When it comes to her art, she's perfectly willing to devote a huge amount of time/energy to it, but she does have problems disciplining herself and loves to be social. Even after improving academically and gaining more confidence after being sent back to seventh, she felt like she was losing all her friends and was totally depressed.

I def think Claud was the outsider with the 3 girls, but I never felt bad for her. I've always been under the assumption that she separated herself from MA and Kristy when they got a little older (maybe into middle school) because they weren't as cool as she was.

I never really thought of Claudia as an outsider when I was younger but I can see where she might be. But I agree with you sotypical, I always got the impression that Claudia separated herself from Mary Anne and Kristy in middle school as well, because they seemed pretty close when they were younger, based on the portrait collection books I have read.

^ Totally agree with both of you. I know in some books Claud even commented on how Kristy and MA were "immature". I think it did bother her, though, that she didn't have a "best friend" and that was one of her insecurity issues, maybe.

I know, I thought the Dawn bit was weird too! And that Mac guy was weird... even if Claud was a little big headed. Laine was pretty cool in this... and Sonny was cute...

I actually liked Dawn's chapters. Kristy's were my least favorites as I don't care for dogs and thought she was really wrong for keeping the dog hidden in someone else's place. Good thing no one was allergic.

^ I really liked the Dawn chapters, too! Richie seemed pretty cool, and I liked how they had a platonic relationship. For once! I guess Jessi & Quint were the mandatory "I'm in LUV after spending less than two weeks with you!" storyline. I mostly agree with the Kristy storyline. It was all right, and Sonny sounded adorable, but the whole thing was so forced. I did love, however, the descriptions of Jessi making a fool of herself in front of the security guards.

I like dogs, but I also think it's really wrong to hide a dog in someone else's place.
