my favourite is probably summer vacation.
my least favourites are probably california girls or new york, new york just because they don't seem plausible at call. with CG, i mean, first of all, the whole lottery thing is crazy. and then, they all get permission to go to CA, mr. schafer agrees to house 6 extra girls for a week, and they all get to go off on their own pretty often. and it's not very likely that mallory would be able to bleach her hair and dye it back in a matter of a few days without destroying it. bleach is pretty harsh. and she'd have to have bleached it to be blonde.
as for NY, NY, where do i begin? there's the whole plot with the harringtons-- completely unrealistic. if they're so rich and important, how're they going to hire two 13 year old girls they've never met to take their children around NYC? and with laine taking in all those extra people-- just didn't seem likely. and claudia's silly anger was totally irrational, as was mallory's sudden desire to take art classes. and finally, letting a bunch of 13 (and 11) year olds wander around NYC alone at night? this is not sex and the city and they are not jenny brier.

I like parts of Summer Vacation (the Mary Anne storyline), and I hate parts of it (Mallory and Jessi - where do I start? Like an earlier poster said, no one's racist, you're just nerds. Plus, it's super-super-super lame that they create these intermediate pseudo-authorative meaningless titles for themselves. I see them with very successful futures in large companies where everyone has important titles but does nothing.)
I always thought the Winter Vacation one sucked, though. It had so much potential (ski resort plus the winter challenge thingie) that got sucked away by the lame-o kids on the bus. Then again, I always *did* find the babysitting to be the more boring part. Sorry for the unpopular (?) opinion there.

I actually think that's pretty popular opinion around here and I agree, I dislike the babysitting esp. in this one. I was SO annoyed when the busplot came in to play. I was like, aw man! No more babysitting! haha

lyndaday, I totally agree about Winter Vacation. The babysitting was sooo boring. Plus, so unrealistic. It would've been so much more fun to just read about Stacey's "romance" with Pierre, Mal finding out what happens when a boy and a girl kiss, and Mary Anne freaking out over Logan. MA's psychotic-ness redeamed this book somewhat for me.

The European one was utter nuts in my opinion. Mallory is related to Shakespeare?! Well, I was never too impressed with him either...

Basically anyone with English or Scottish ancestry can trace their roots back to royalty, famous authors, ect. I think it's pretty common.

True, I suppose, but it still seemed utterly ridiculous to me. And that was just the icing on a cake of Oh My Good This Is Ludicrous-osity.

Well, I mean, Mal's the sturdy, ugly one. They had to give her something.

I haven't read all of the books yet, because I'm younger than most of you so all of the books are out of print and I can't find them, but out of the one's that I have read, I liked Baby-sitter's on Board because I liked the part about Disneyworld and all the Pike kids and the Thomas/Brewer Kids.
I hated Shadow Lake though- it was so boring! I also hated the Island Adventure because that didn't seem the least bit possible to me.

I just can't get into Island Adventure. I missed the baby-sitting chapters and never care for books that involve being stranded on a deserted island. I used to not like Snowbound but enjoyed it more when I just reread it. My favorites are Aloha Babysitters, European Vacation, and NY NY. I have only read Baby Sitters on Board but like that one really well too. CA Girls is just so-so, though I like the baby-sitting parts and the trip to Universal and Claud's relationship with Terry. I also like Starring the BSC pretty well because I've always wanted to be in a play and BSC in the USA because of the places they visit. Haven't reread the others for a while so don't want to comment on those yet.

I like New York, New York and Baby-sitters Remember.
Island Adventure wins the prize for the least realistic thing ever, but at least it was interesting. Aloha, Baby-sitters sucked-- I hated how Jessi kept going around taking pictures, and no one ever told her to put away the camera.
