We wouldn't be the devoted BSC fans we are if we didn't! I also wonder how big a resort Shadow Lake was. I love to imagine it as small and not well or at least overly populated by tourists. I'm not saying it was exclusive nor would I want it to be just that in true quainter Stoneybrook sense, I hope it has a more homey, personal feel than a big name place that's all.

I am guessing this is just a situation where the writers just didn't think it through very carefully, and they wanted Kristy's huge family plus the BSC to fit, but still, weird! They still could have fit with a few more "normal" rooms, but it's like they always went out of their way to make sure no one shared a bed. Did that ever happen? Slumber parties?

^lol, I remember this has actually come up in discussion before! They did seem to go out of their way to show no one sharing a bed. Off the top of my head: -in SM#1, the sitters get rooms to themselves which is weird. When they share rooms when they get scared, they sleep on the floor (in a gross, ancient mansion with floors that are probably mildewy) rather than share a bed -in SS#13, the students are 3 to a room and don't share a bed (there are 2 beds and 1 couch). That certainly never happened on the overnight school trips I took!
The only time I remember bed-sharing was when it was a plot point - Stacey wetting the bed she shared with Laine.

In SS1 Kristy, Claudia, and MA each have a bed to themselves one night and then share the other two. The funniest shared bed is in "The Ghost at Dawn's House" on pages 56-65 (new cover). After being scared by Karen's Ben Brewer tales and a big storm,Kristy ends up sharing her "mammoth bed" (I always thought it was at least a queen if not bigger) with David Michael,Andrew, Karen, plus Louie and BooBoo. I also seem to remember and maybe I am making this up in the early days at Watson's, maybe one of the other sitters' shared Kristy's big bed instead of sleeping on the floor. There are brief scenes of a charge sharing a bed with a sitter such as Charlotte and Stacey a few times in "Mystery of Stoneybrook." Also in one of the Sea City books I just read Claire and Margo catch a few extra zzz's in Stacey and MA's beds after waking them up very early. Oh and I just read in Karen's Hurricane, Karen and Andrew, spent part of the night before the storm in their mom and Seth's bed. I think Andrew at one other time spent part of a night with Karen. Thanks for the laugh, Celaeno. ETA: In Summer Vacation Char spends part of a night at camp with Kristy. I remember that because of how disappointed I always was that the friendship , or at least closeness, the two of them shared at Camp Mohawk never lasted. Of course, I also thought Charlotte should have gone home early but that is another story that has long since been shared in that book's thread.

Didn't Mary Anne and Kristy sleep in the same bed at one point?

In SS#1, there were only two beds in Claudia, Dawn, and Kristy's hotel room and they rotated who shared and who got a bed to themselves each night. I'm with Mona on the size of the Shadow Lake community. I always saw Shadow Lake as a very home-like community that's more or less "owned" by the people who vacation there year after year. I'd love to visit a place like that!

^It did. A long time ago now I worked at a preschool that was in rural, NorCal. My classroom just had space within a bigger school that was completely separate from the program I was in. Anyway the grounds were located somewhat way out there and a more rural area of a small town. There were lots of trees, too and it was so nice how everything outside was green. I picture Shadow Lake as having a similar feel but more woodsy and of course the lake.

Had a few hot days so decided to pull this out. Last time I commented on the simplicity of the book and how it was a bit boring, but I appreciated it a lot more this time 'round. Some notes:
Cute Kristy/Mallory moment:
"Yo!" shouted Stacey. "Look out there! In the middle of the lake." "Yo?" repeated Mal. "She's from New York," I heard Kristy say to Mal, who nodded knowingly.
I like the semi-accuracy of the cover, since it is an actual scene in the book and Kristy, Claud and Mal are said to be making s'mores (which they are).

I was just rereading this one and something occurred to me. Did all the beds in the cabin have sheets on them? If they did, then why did every babysitter bring their sleeping bag? They didn't know that they would be spending the night on the island ahead of time, and those sleeping bags must have taken up a lot of room in the cars. This is the kind of random thing that I think about once in awhile.

Expected so much more from this story....but nothing actually happens. Sam’s behaviour towards Stacey is out of order but at least we get to see things from his point of view.

Lots like New Yorker Randy Zak from Girl Talk! Randy often said Yo. Another cute Randy-ism was when she'd answer the phone with Speak to me. So cute!

I somehow got rid of most of my BSC books... I think they got damaged in a box when I moved back in 2013. Yikes. Some Super Specials managed to make it, though, and this was one of them.
I loved this one when I was younger, but now I find it rather... dull. Odd, because I LOVE the setting. It's like my dream place to live (not my dream home, the cabin is a little weird). The Jessi plot is pretty funny (I'm liking Jessi a lot more as an adult), as is the Mallory one, although I dislike how the other members are treating her. Even though I kind of hate it when kids have chapters in Super Specials, theirs are actually kind of interesting.
I keep meaning to pick it up again, but it's just... meh. It sounds like a nice vacation, but doesn't make a very good story. It's also super convenient that there's a dance on the last night.
I tried to find this point I thought of while reading this, but I couldn't. What exactly is the point of Kristy making her friends write in this? Would that really change Watson's decision so much? She's really hanging out and watching them write in their journals (judging by one of Mal"s entries)? That's so annoying! I would hate to put up with that if I was one of her friends. It's too bad Abby was introduced so late... I doubt she'd put up with this.
I'm really not liking Kristy much while re-reading these, although I do remember this one has a sweet ending with her and Watson becoming closer. I think that's one of the stronger plot points of the series.
I'm sorry if I sound too whiny! I'm just oddly disappointed in this one.
