I think shaving is sort of a rite of passage for guys, also...needing to do so would probably have made Sam feel more grown up.

Maybe there was no one at home to take care of him? I suppose they could've told Karen to run next door and ask Mrs. Porter...

What about Shannon across the way? A Papadakis? I mean, someone has to feed the fish and Emily Jr! (and I think there a hermit crab? or did I make that up?) Bart Taylor could have done it for a small fee, he seems enterprising.
I don't know why bringing BooBoo drives me crazy in a world where it makes sense to take eleventeen hundred children away from home for weeks at a time. I understand taking the dog, but a cat? And not only a cat, but a crotchedy old cat that hates everything and everyone (except Watson)?

I hate BooBoo. They should've just put him in a kennel or something. I mean you can pay professionals to watch your pets when you're out of town!

^Plus they could have had someone in the neighborhood come once a day to clean out the litter box and feed him.

I hate Boo-Boo, too. They should have left him to starve to death.

^ Personally I found him less irritating that Tigger, but I agree it was stupid to take him to Shadow Lake. Watson was a millionaire FFS. Why couldn't they put him in kennels?

Bringing Boo-Boo was just stupid. A cat is not a dog. He could have wandered off or totally freaked out and ran away.

^Maybe that's what they were all secretly hoping for

Fair point.
I'm surprised they didn't make Nannie stay home with Boo-Boo. And Emily Michelle.

^ Does Watson play with his cat? I haven't read about him doing that before.

Waaaaiiiiiit.....how have I never paid attention to the fact that they brought BOO BOO?!?! I've read this one a million times. It would make sense if he was a lovable, cuddly cat that liked to play, but like someone else said, he hates everything and everyone.

I loved this book! Sam's chapter was great, I love how he watches Charlie shave whenever he gets a chance. I didn't really like the end when Stacey suddenly falls completely in luv with him, and we get that lame picture of them dancing, clinging to each other with their eyes closed. It just seemed too sudden. Throughout the entire book she's complaining about him and trying to get away from him, but in the span of 2 seconds she changes her mind?
This book had SO many instances of Kristy interrupting somebody's diary entries! Mal would be writing something like, "Omg bugs are everywhere! Everyone is making fun of me for my outfit but I really need it because this lake is swarming with bugs." and suddenly Kristy pops in with, "Hey, Mal, let's try to keep it positive! What about how beautiful the lake is?" and then Mallory responds, and so on. I mean, was Kristy monitoring everybody's diary entries or something?
Anyway, bringing BooBoo was totally unrealistic now that I think about it. Cats just aren't suited for that sort of thing. You can't just uproot one and throw it in a brand new environment for a couple weeks. BooBoo would have freaked out and probably spent the entire vacation hiding under a bed or something.

Kinda sad when you think about little boys watching their fathers shaving and how his deadbeat dad wasn't around and it'd be kinda creepy for him to watch Watson. This was the book that made me have a crush on Sam when I was young. Last time I read it I thought he was pretty annoying with the "dahlings" and throwing wet cereal at Stacey.
Who decorates their summer home with 12 bunk beds? That's pretty crappy decor.
Random fashion stuff. Except for Mallory's ugly mustard shirt, everyone looked pretty good on the cover. Nice to see Claudia wearing cowboy boots on a camping trip. Emily Michelle's swimming suit had a fish blowing bubbles on it with the bubbles as little cut outs in the suit. So cute!
