^ Sometimes people make something a bigger deal of something than it actually is, especially kids.

I don't know if this is the right thread to put this in, but anyway. Today I thought about how Ricky Torres' real name could very well be Ricardo. Ricky...Ricardo. I see what you're doing there, Ann.

Lol! I wonder how Ann feels about that new movie “Being the Ricardos.”

One thing I remember someone bringing up in the snark community on LJ was how it felt like every single kid in Stoneybrook got along with each other very well. Like, yeah, Nicky and Buddy had that argument where Nicky called him "Cruddy Carrot" and Karen got into occasional fights with Nancy and Hannie and of course there was Pamela. But in the BSC books, we'd see like one girl babysitting and another girl would come by with the kids she was babysitting and they'd all be happy and get along every time. Unless I'm forgetting more kid fights?
The only exception I can think of is Amanda Delaney, before she moved away. When kids weren't using her for her pool, of course. I forget if it was LS or the BSC but it was mentioned that Karen was the only kid who could tolerate her and even then they'd sometimes argue. And Hannie REALLY hated her.

Cruddy Carrot is such a good insult. I love how creative kids are when they're being jerks.

Karen seemed very close to Seth's parents even though she must not have known them very well. They lived long distance and the family hadn't been together all that long. My grandpa was also technically a "step" grandpa, but I've never felt that way. So, adult me thinks that relationship is cute in a way that little me didn't notice.

Someone in the Karen's Stepmother thread asked if Karen and Andrew spent every other weekend with the opposite parent when the custody arrangement switched to monthly. Like how it used to be with Watson, only now did they do it with Lisa on his months. The answer is no. They spent full months with each parent. I never thought about that idea. Why didn't they do that?! Let everybody touch base a few times during the month.

I think the early books, now comically very dated, try to make Janine *having a computer* make her sound like super-nerd and unrelatable, all about her personality and maturity (and sometimes outright non-coolness).

What did people do with computers back then besides nerdy things and Oregon Trail? I'm sincerely asking, lol. My family was too poor for a computer.
Did Claudia buy the family sized versions of all of her snacks? It made it sound like they pigged out at meetings. A bag of chips is like 3/4 air. She had 5-7 pairs of hands digging around in them. They probably got a handful of Doritos and like 5 M & M's at an average meeting.

My mom I think used Word or something like it when we got our desktop computer in 1995 to type letters and stuff? My sister and I were ONLY TOO HAPPY to insert our CD-ROMS and play games after that.

Ferris Bueller used his to skip school. That was 1986.
I was reading a Karen book today. She sat under a tree at the big house and told me her two-two story. I wondered how often she sat down and reminisced about her two families. Would she be 85 years old telling her grandchildren how she was a two-two with two dead husbands, two hip replacements, two sets of dentures, etc.?

My family had a computer from the early 90s on and it was basically used as a word processor and for playing games. Unless Janine had a rudimentary early version of the internet!

Or would that be too chaotic? Idk, but my best friend growing up was able to do it. Overall, I'm just surprised that they're allowed to stay out so late on school nights. I thought that early!Mr. Spier's baby-sitting curfew was actually very reasonable. Also, as an adult, I would HATE working until 9 or later. I don't even like going out after 9. Throws my schedule off. I'm so confused by the treasury and have no idea how they afford everything lol. This never bothered me as a kid.

I don't like being out after like 5pm. Let me eat my early bird special and get home, thank you. Haha, but seriously, there's a completely different breed of people out there at night.
What was the most expensive stuff that they bought with the treasury money? I feel like they mostly bought crafty/school supply stuff. That stuff was cheap. (I just looked on the Walmart website and found Crayola 24 count crayons on clearance for 50 cents. Some off-brand name was 37 cents. Bargain shopping, girls!) Plus, Stacey was super judgmental and stingy with what she allowed them to buy, lol.

Didn't they always buy from local stores though? Mom and pop stores wouldn't have prices that low.
