My mother was diagnosed with type 1 brittle diabetes about two years ago. She is just now in talks to get a pump. There's a ton that goes into it. She's going to have to basically have lessons on how to use it. And, she really can't handle sweets or anything high carb like regular bread or potatoes or the magic pretzels that Stacey always ate at meetings. Diabetes is a b.i.t.c.h. even in this day and age.

Hope your mum is all right. There are several members of my family on the insulin pump who have to curtail their intake of simple carbs, but they manage fine. Diabetes is a very common disorder that affects so many people in different ways. Some people can handle pretzels whereas others might have a harder time with pretzels. I have one friend who has to take it easy on white pasta because it raises her blood sugar, but another friend of mine can eat a plate of white spaghetti just fine without her blood sugar rising. Perhaps pretzels didn't affect Stacey's blood sugar too much.
