I think they were great as either one.
Dawn and Mary Anne had a normal sibling relationship, not a pathological one.
And no, Mary Anne was NOT "abusive!" That's nonsense!
Their fights were like any other fights between siblings.
I grew up with lots of siblings, so I know.
Dawn often teased sensitive Mary Anne, but that's typical between siblings.
I sometimes laughed at some of the things that went down.
I wish people would stop pathologizing Dawn and Mary Anne's sibling relationship.
Especially stupid are the fanfictions that depict Dawn and Mary Anne "hating" each other and in particular the ones that villianize Mary Anne as this "awful, mean" person.
Then there are the silly fanfictions that pathologize the entire Spier-Schafer family and have not only Dawn and Mary Anne "hating" each other, but portray Sharon and Richard as abusive toward Mary Anne.

I prefer them as friends, I think as sisters they brought out the worst in each other.

I prefer them as friends, I think as sisters they brought out the worst in each other. Not always, although sometimes Dawn teased Mary Anne a bit too much sometimes. After the fire, they came together as sisters. I wish people would stop pathologizing their sibling bond. Their fights were NOT abnormal, dysfunctional or abusive. Always, they made up quickly after they fought. They really were not much different than any other set of sisters close in age.

No, they weren't much different. I said years ago that I fight more with my siblings than any other people. They just needed to remember to take time for themselves and have their own space. Nobody needs to be up on top of each other all the time.

Nobody needs to be up on top of each other all the time. True...so true. Glad you see it. I am tired of some people, including some fanfic writers depicting them as bitter enemies. It was great to see Sharon and Richard marry and Mary Anne gain a stepsister. It was also great to see Mary Anne reunited with her grandmum.
