^ That's a VERY Karen Brewer-esque photo. Love it!

^ Reminds of me of Teresa (from the Real Housewives of New Jersey) ... (the forehead thing)

Regarding the names....I went through a phase at the age of four where I would only answer to the names of my favorite pop-culture characters. For awhile it was Madeline, then it was Kiki from The Puzzle Place.
I went further than that, though.....I assigned my parents and new baby sister names that matched my reference. For Madeline, my mom was Miss Clavel, my dad was Genevieve (I feel so sorry for him now, I was a brat, making him be a dog -- and a GIRL dog at that), and my baby sister was one of the other little girls in the lines that was never given a name.
I'm still so amazed my parents went along with it. Though they did bring it up when I was diagnosed with Asperger's in the sixth grade, saying that may have been a sign.

I did things like that and wondered for years if I had undiagnosed Aspergers
I called everyone some kind of spice after Spice Girls in middle school/high school and acted childish like that when I was away from people that were trying to act way older and I was sucked into that though uncomfortable.

This book somewhat reminds me of the scene in Ramona and Her Mother where Beezus wants to get her hair cut like the figure skater on TV (which is obviously Dorothy Hamill and she wants her famous wedge cut). At the salon, Beezus' hair turns out to be a disaster. Meanwhile, Ramona gets the cutest pixie cut.

I hadn't made that connection, Virgo.
How did Karen know the name Titania? *A Midsummer Night's Dream* is hardly famililar literature to your average seven-year-old!

I had finished reading Karen's Haircut a week ago and I enjoyed. Poor Karen. She was having a self esteem crisis with her teeth and glasses and Gloriana and Hannie just made things even worse!
Hannie definitely got hit hard by the Idiot Ball. She was so petty and mean to Karen. Luckily, she came to her senses later.
Karen's mullet definitely fits the time the book was written.
