Karen's in love is a really cute book as well. I love the whole playground wedding. I also liked the Valentines day stuff in it. I thought it was really cute. I thought the playground wedding was cute too. This is also the only book where Karen actually goes to McDonald's (She goes with the Thomas/Brewer clan in case nobody remembers) and the only time I remember such a thing being mentioned in a BSC book.

^ I picked up on the McDonalds thing too. She seemed to think it was a big deal, which I thought was weird. I couldn't live without the major fast food restaurants ;D But I guess we don't have a Renwicks or Rosebud in our town ;D (Do actually have several restaurants like those, I guess, but I don't ever go to them.)

it's referenced in the bsc book where kristy is making valentines with her siblings and karen's all depressed and makes kristy read her the dead bird. which bsc book is it? i forget. I had to laugh today when my dad "took care" ;D of a woodpecker that has been attacking our house for weeks because I thought of this book. It's funny how everything makes me think of the BSC or LS books now. I seem to relate them to everything in my life (but it does usually lift my mood, like today). I guess I'm obsessed. ;D

Yeah I remember the big deal she made about going there and I thought that was weird too. We have several restaurants like Renwicks and Rosebud Cafe too, but I've only eaten at those places if we have relatives come to town and they want to go out for breakfast or something.

some families don't let their kids eat at mcdonalds... i know a bunch of people who were only allowed to eat there while on vacation, for example.

I was technically "allowed," I guess, but my parents never took me to eat at McDonald's. It was always my grandparents who took me when we went to visit them. So I was always excited to get to go. Plus there was a K-Mart right across the parking lot, where we'd sometimes go after. I got a lot of BSC books there!
I guess all kids like McDonald's, even super-rich kids who could eat out at Renwick's whenever they wanted! (That place always sounded so nice.)

renwicks is weird. sometimes it sounds super nice--like when ma and logan go on a really fancy date there--and then there's other times, like when stacey takes char there and charlotte orders off the kids' menu, which is named after peanuts characters. usually that's reserved for like, diners. renwicks is an enigma to me

^ I never can figure out the restaurants in Stoneybrook and truthfully, always get Renwicks and Rosebud confused. Sometimes they make Renwicks sound like an ice cream place, even. I think they just use them randomly and interchangably, like they do with a lot of details. Sometimes I get the impression that the details just weren't important to the writers.

^ I never got that about Rosebud. Now maybe I can get a mental picture. It sounds like a cool place ;D As for the McDonalds thing, I guess I didn't eat at places like McDonalds all that much except when we were on the road traveling to horse shows (which was pretty much all the time ;D)

I picked up on the Mcdonalds thing too, and thought it was a bit odd. I never figured out Renwick's either. I liked the sound of the Rosebud, it always sounded like a cool place to me.

Just reread Karen's In Love with the McDonalds thing and now don't think she considered going there a big deal because she "couldn't believe" that Emily hadn't ever been there. It was actually Emily who was fascinated, which might make sense as this was one of the earlier books in the LS series so possibly only shortly after they adopted Emily.

well geez, Karen. a) Emily is two, she does not need to be eating fast food yet and b) she is adopted from a foreign country! I doubt the agency was taking her out for big macs! That is cute EM was fascinated though

^ I didn't think Karen was really making a big deal out of it. She was just surprised that someone hadn't been to McDonalds, which I think is a pretty common assumption for a 7 year old who has eaten there fairly frequently ;D

I know we almost never did when I was little. If I have a clear memory of going to Wendy's once when I was 4, it must have stood out as an unusual instance, to have fast food.
