Alicia Silverstone and Mark Feurstein have been cast as Elizabeth and Watson. LINK I don't know who he is, but the promo pic that they used makes him look a bit like McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy. They both look too young and Alicia is too blond and too blue-eyed. The real Elizabeth has dark hair and brown eyes like Kristy.

You don't know what her hair and styling will look like yet. The Mark dude is 48 which is younger than I pictured Watson. Basically he's too thin and attractive. I think it's kind of odd that they would cast the parent first (who I assume is going to be a minor character) and then try to find a main character to match her. It's not like Alicia is a big name that they needed to lock down.

It’s going to be a series, not a movie.
The article on it describes it as a “dramedy” and the show runner will be Rachel Shukert, who worked on GLOW (which is good) and wrote some YA books about Old Hollywood that I really enjoyed and was bummed never got more than two books (Starstruck/Love Me). So I don’t think that it will be a straight up, just-like-the-books adaptation, but it might be period and the show runner grew up with the books. I like her work so it makes me feel a little better.
I’m guessing the casting will be like Riverdale where there was some nostalgia casting for the adults (Luke Perry and Skeet Ulrich) and the teens were mainly unknown except for the Sprouse twin. That seems to be a common approach these days.

Fun fact. Clueless and The Baby-Sitters Club movies were in theaters at the same time. I think that's why it's so confusing to me! Clueless and the BSC movie are linked for me because they are both iconic products of the 90s, but Alicia Silverstone grew up and the sitters didn't. I still feel like she should be playing a glamorous high school girl that the sitters are in awe of.

As we were walking past the BSC poster she was like "sure you don't want to see Baby-sitters Club instead? Haha." I acted like she was dumb while internally thinking we could do a double feature. My friend and I rented the BSC VHS from Hollywood Video later that year. Lol.

I saw it in theaters and I was 9, so perfect age, but I think I actually prefer the TV show.

They both look too young and Alicia is too blond and too blue-eyed. The real Elizabeth has dark hair and brown eyes like Kristy. Alicia is 42 which is the right age range. You don't know what her hair and styling will look like yet. Maybe so, but I still think Alicia looks too Hollywood-ized for the role of Edie. There are plenty of brown-eyed naturally brunette actresses out there that can depict Elizabeth better instead of selecting an actress that will result in lots of extra work in hair-dyes and colored contacts lenses and extra makeup. I liked the 1995 film edition of Elizabeth the best...that's how I picture Kristy's mum. The Mark dude is 48 which is younger than I pictured Watson. Basically he's too thin and attractive. Agreed there. The 1995 film is how I pictured Watson...I always imagined him with gray hair. I think it's kind of odd that they would cast the parent first (who I assume is going to be a minor character) and then try to find a main character to match her. It's not like Alicia is a big name that they needed to lock down. Agreed there...they should cast the girls first, then select matching parents who look related to the girls. And I do hope they get the girls right, especially in coloring and most of the facial features. That means please...no pale-haired and/or light-eyed actor for Kristy, Mary Anne, Abby or Claudia.

One fun thing about being an adult...you are free to see the films YOU want to see.

I very much picture '90s Alicia Silverstone as Dawn, her as Sharon would have been cool, her as Elizabeth seems a pretty big stretch, not very fitting but she could still do well.

Ann posted a picture of her on set holding a copy of a script—Episode 4, “Mary Anne Saves the Day.” So I think it’s safe to say they will be based on the books! 😊

Since this will be a ten episode series, do you think that Jessi will be in it?
I also just think that the club is complete when there’s all seven members.

Here is the IMDb page. I don't know how accurate it is. They have two different people listed for both Karen and Andrew. It is a really short, random group of characters listed. If they are this far into production then they should have the girls cast already. I want to see pictures so that I can be my natural judgy self.

Most of those people do not look like the characters that I imagine in my head. I think I’m just too use to the tv series.
Also this is random, but if that’s Mr. Redmont, then he changed from black to white from the tv series.
