Degrassi is one of my other guilty pleasures, so I actually would be totally fine if there was a mashup between that and the BSC, lol. But I definitely understand those of you looking for something different, and I do hope it generally matches the tone of the books.

Lol, I just used Degrassi as an example because when I tried watching the next generation one I thought every episode felt like an after school special. I don't want this to beat us over the head trying to be relevant. If they have to stray that far from the original source then maybe they should have picked a different series to adapt. I'm not bothered by most of what I've read, but Dawn is a COMPLETELY different character. That does bug me.

Well reading over the article it looks like the lead writer is a super fan and will keep in line with the original books. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The show runners seem to be big BSC fans so I have some hope that the spirit of the books will shine through. As for Jack being gay, I like that they’re addressing a different kind of family structure that wasn’t able to be represented in the books back in the 80s and 90s. Many of the kids watching now will have same sex parents or at the very least know other kids with this family dynamic. It’s just another one of those changes that modernizes the series, especially considering it was created by a woman who herself is (rumored to be) LGBTQ.

^ I agree, and I think having representation is true to the spirit of the original books. Actually at least one of Ann’s recent books in the Mrs Piggle Wiggle series had a family with two moms in it.
Anyway I would probably die of happiness if they could get one of the actresses from SATC to cameo at some point as a charge’s parent. I assume there is a large overlap between SATC and BSC fans lol.

I wonder if they'll get any actresses from the movie or the other series to cameo in this series?

I don’t think the older crowd is their target audience, so probably not. Kids wouldn’t appreciate the effort.
We are roughly a month away. How do we want to organize our conversations? I think we should have a separate thread for each episode. Do you think we will have enough conversation to have a sub-forum just for the series? I don’t know if we can even make a new one without Kylie.

Yea that’s true, I just figured with a lot of the original fans of the books watching too they’d throw us a bone lol. Then again looking at the pages for the original girls only a small handful of actresses seems to be still acting.
We’ll probably have to just make threads if the episodes. The original tv series episodes are just mixed in this board with the movie stuff. Unless Kylie wants to come in and separate all of them into their own subs.

^ That's one of the things I disliked about Girl Meets World. I loved that they brought back the original cast, but the intended audience was the next generation and not the grown-up original audience so it didn't feel like the same show. I think it would be killer to have any of the original actresses included, even in a small role.

^ Ditto, I mean when hollywood adapted anything like a book you're going to bring in the original fans whether they like it or not. Girl Meets World had it's own problems but at least it had some guest stars. Any of the original actresses would be fantastic in the series regardless of what role they had.

Girl Meets World was a horrible mess. I've only seen the first season, but from what I could tell Fuller House did a great job balancing a new generation of viewers with fans from the original. The Conners does pretty well also. But, this isn't a continuation of anything. They are in fact still 13, lol. It would have been funny if Bre Blair or Schuyler Fisk played Maureen or Elizabeth though. They're even the right age range.

Bre Blaire as Maureen has to be my favorite casting lol. Yea girl meets world did a lot of things wrong but it could have been much worse. I really wish we had more casting info on some of these other characters.

She's cute! Not "sturdy" at all. It seems they're going full on red hair and freckles for the whole Pike family.

This actress is super cute, but she seems really young! I don't spend much time around kids but is that what 11-year-olds look like? If you told me that she was 8 (or the actress for Vanessa or Margo), I would believe you.
