I was looking for a LS book to read this morning since they always put me in a good mood but couldn't decide which one - until I saw that I owned Karen's Toothache. I hadn't read it for a really long time but decided it would be a good one since I have to go and get a tooth filled tomorrow and am absolutely DREADING it I was so glad I read it as it made me feel much better. I can really relate to Karen running away (though this was a pretty naughty thing to do but understandable) because I would like to do that right now. I also feel better after reading how she needed to rest after having her tooth pulled because it was a "major operation" and told my mom about all of the special treatment Karen got for her operation (hint hint ;D) Karen-haters probably consider this stuff bratty but it really made me feel better. There were other funny parts of this book, especially Andrew's messed up words. Usually he bugs me but he was pretty cute in this one. I also liked how Karen was trying to tell everyone's fortunes and the kids all believed her. This isn't so strange as I know adults who have consulted psychics (though I don't believe in that stuff, myself) and consider everything they say to be fact. Anyone else ever reassured or made to feel better by reading a Little Sister book? I know a lot of people on here consider her bratty (and I used to also) but lately, I find ways to really relate to Karen and draw from her confidence and enthusiasm. My advice is read this book if you're apprehensive about a dentist appointment

I should have read this one back when I had my wisdom teeth pulled! It would have helped me through it more!

My mom got me a copy of Karen's School Picture when I had to get glasses in second grade to make me feel better.

I'm so lucky not to have wisdom teeth! Dentist said I will never get them and joked that it's because I'm more "highly evolved" ;D But I do have really, really weak and thin teeth so they keep breaking, especially the front ones which were too long to begin with. The last time a corner broke off, I just tried to fix it myself so it kind of reminded me of Karen's "rabbit teeth" in Karen's Haircut - another book I can totally relate to with feeling like an "ugly duckling" So now I jokingly call them the "fangs" but I'm past worrying about my looks now Karen's books have really helped, not sure why but they really boost my self-confidence.

Karen books just overall make me feel good. They give me that happy go lucky feeling of being a little kid again, which is something I miss in normal everyday life.

Karen's drama queen tendencies just really got on my nerves in general. I don't really remember this book, but I think I read it.

Well, I made it through my “major operation” and all went fine ;D I had read Karen’s Accident this morning to encourage myself again to “be brave.” And my nice mommy took the hint from Karen’s special treatment in Karen’s Toothache and had a surprise ordered for me. I remembered one more funny part of this book that I had forgotten to mention – when Karen writes her “Last Will and Testament.” Love it how she gets tired of listing everything so just says, “leave it all to Kristy but Andrew, Nancy and Hannie can pick first.” I thought of this right before my appointment (when I was contemplating running away ;D) and thought that maybe I should start making my own Will. Thankfully, I survived and without a shot. It didn’t even hurt (but don’t tell mom that ;D) Glad I had read this book first, though.

Well, my mom has to read Karen's Toothache now ;D Last night at supper, she broke a filling and has to get it fixed today. Maybe we shouldn't have been talking about this book... I just read Karen's School Trip so now hopefully we don't all get sick with "the plague" that all the kids get in that one.

Ooh, I'll have to order this one from Amazon! I can totally relate to Karen (or anyone for that matter) that's had teeth problems. Right now my wisdom teeth are bothering me like crazy, and they're impacted so they'll continue to cause pain until I get them pulled out. It all depends on how good of a dentist you get. Luckily, I've had mostly okay experiences but my cousin has had horrible experiences that would make anybody dread going.

^ Oh, I feel for you with the wisdom teeth. I just got 13 teeth filled (preventative fillings since I am "lucky" to have really awful teeth) in one sitting. Needless to say, I read Karen's Toothache before that appt., too ;D My little cousin is always saying how badly her braces hurt so I was just lucky I never had to have those. I love this book. It is one of my favorite LS books. I'm getting a good laugh (and really needed it ;D) right now remembering Karen's "Last Will and Testament"

I have to get a tooth filled soon. I am so not looking forward to it. I am one of those people who are scared of dentists.

You're so lucky you never needed braces. I had to wear them for 4 and a half years because I had a severe underbite. It hurt really bad every time I had to get them tightened.

I'm almost glad I had braces as a kid (though they did no good, my teeth are terrible), because now dentists don't bother me at all.

As a kid, my dentist (different one than I have now who is a friend of the family and great actually asked me if I wanted braces. I asked if I needed them and he said no but I could get them if I wanted to (I had a very, very tiny under or overbite but nothing that was even noticible or needed to be corrected). He said he figured all of my friends had them and I didn't want to feel left out. I was like NO WAY! I never cared about being like everyone else, anyway, but that sounded like the dumbest reason ever to get braces. I kept thinking about how Mal didn't want them. I think the dentist just wanted the $$ because he could have done mine himself ;D
