This episode is a loose adaptation of the first book and the first episode in the series. Please discuss it here!

This is adorable. Some unorganized thoughts:
They’re elevating Kristy’s headstrong personality to like 1000, but I like they they’re not afraid to make her more outspoken. It’s realistic and as lifelong reader of the BSC I was kind of scandalized when she said she wouldn’t kiss Watson’s butt. She said butt! But I definitely almost cried when she unfolded her director’s chair and grabbed her visor.
The distanced friendship of Kristy and Claudia feels more layered than it did in the books, along with Kristy being unsure about Stacey. It very realistic. Also, shout out to Janine. I love the updated dark nerd vibe.
This was a good episode. It went it’s own way in some parts but felt very much like Kristy’s Great Idea.

Be realistic!

I'm really liking this, even being set in 2020, they are able to work in landlines and fliers to be believable.
Also liking that they are adapting each book, with each girl getting spotlight.
Think the core is pretty close to book, though at only half hour per episode obviously a lot cut out, like we don't see each babysitter on their first job (no pinky and buffy). But think all the girls are spot on for the characters

I just finished episode one, and I LOVE THIS SHOW. You can tell the people making this didn't just want to bring the series back because they thought it would be entertaining, but because they are fans themselves. The shot where you can see Slate Street/Bradford Court in the background, Claudia's spelling highlighted in her email to Kristy, and you cannot convince me that Stacey handing a woman in a beret a flyer wasn't a reference to the multiple berets she wore in Stacey's Big Break in the original series. I almost don't want to watch all of these today so I can stretch them out longer!

This was so enjoyable. The side characters were not how I pictured them. Watson was annoying. Janine was dark and kinda angry. Claudia had an awesome room. Stacey was the weak link for me, but I've always been biased against her. The whole thing went by very quickly.

😍 I LOVED this and didn’t expect it to be so good! I was kinda shocked by Claudia’s menstruation-themed art since that topic is never mentioned in the books. Louie is adorable and I wish I had a collie now. However I feel like my life is a lie since I had been pronouncing ‘Papadakis’ wrong this whole time😭

But think all the girls are spot on for the characters I realized that there was kind of a nod to Pinky and Buffy because when Kristy was spying on Mary Anne's sitting job, she did lose control of a dog when Louie ran off. chirpchirp, I also only learned this year that I've been pronouncing "Papadakis" wrong since the '80s, but I learned it by listening to the books on Audible so I wasn't blindsided by it in the show.

I actually read the book today and just watched the series right now and I caught a lot of things that were in the book that they put into the episode. It was cool.

Anyone catch Kristys Clueless mention ? She said something along the lines of my mom isn't totally clueless ! Yeah, she said something along the lines of 'I felt out of control, which I hate' too, which I guess was also referencing that line in Clueless 'I felt impotent and out of control. Which I really, really hate.'

I loved this. Loved the vintage see-through phone, loved the explanation of why they were using the landline, loved that Karen had a Wednesday Addams vibe going on, I just loved everything!
I think all the girls are great in their roles, but Kristy especially is spot-on, imo. Perfect casting there.

She’s my favorite of all the actresses. Great expressive face and attitude.
