I kind of would have preferred Alan in this ep because he’s in the entire run of the book series, but it makes sense that it would be Claudia’s love interest since it’s her ep. Claudia is so adorable. Her whole family is. Karen should have been like this in the books, lol. Yes! I wanted some Alan action, too! After I watched the first episode, I was wondering how this one would work since it takes place in the time of cell phones and caller ID and everything. I was sort of meh about how it wasn’t really the same plot (Trevor and Alan too shy to ask Claud and Kristy to the dance), but at least they worked the phantom call in, even though it was between MA and Kristy. I thought it was cleverly done (MA’s baby phone) even if it didn’t make much sense as far as the book was concerned. I liked the whispering cove in Watson’s house. Kristy was still such a jerk - how can you not at least hug Andrew a little bit when he hugs you on his way to bed. 🙄 I really liked Claudia’s parents in this - they seemed much less formal than I had pictures them - although Janine was wayyyyy different than I always imagines her. My sister and I really got into it over Janine. My sister said Janine was EXACTLY as she pictured her. I thought this Janine was a mix of a robot and Wednesday Addams. I always thought Janine would have smiled here and there and not been so . . . well, robotic.

OK depiction of Claudia, and how Stacey tempted her to lie was a nice drama addition (although Stacey being so fearful of going to the dance without her was a change not really big or bad though). The phone caller felt still creepy but pretty not-focused-on/pretty toned down and Claudia saying a few times that expectations were like phantom phone calls felt like an awkward connection.
Kristy calling Mary Anne unprofessional for getting grounded, while she still refusing to sit for Watson's kids though Watson helped her was unpleasant, then Mary Anne blurting out back just to apologize later felt forced.
