Dawn and the Impossible Three is an adaptation of the fifth book and in the series and the fifth episode in the season. Please discuss it here!

The Barrett kids were just how I pictured them. Mrs. Barrett was a major downgrade. Kristy consistently has daddy issues in every adaptation.

Mrs. Barrett wasn’t just a mess in this, she was rude and selfish. Definitely a downgrade. Mr. Barrett was an improvement though. I also loved Sharon stepping in!

Yeah, I thought it was kind of harsh that the Barretts went from 'mom's flaky because she's working for the first time and looking after the kids; dad's no prize either' to 'mom's flaky because she's off for facials and pursuing the most unreliable job in the world, meanwhile dad is the hero'.

They took Natalie from looking like a model to being an aspiring actress... Hmm. And when you see the sitters actually looking like kids, it really hits home how messed up it was for the parents of Stoneybrook relying on the BSC to raise their kids.

Agreed surprised they made Natalie so unlikable, there was the bit where she was clearly upset by Mr Barrett on the phone and he wasn't making payments on time, but he did come off a lot better than in the books. Taking Buddy for pre-arranged swim lessons rather than getting him spontaneously.
I liked Sharon telling off Natalie and looking out for Dawn.
Also no Jeff in this world? I guess if they didn't want to do the whole homesick plot with him, he doesn't really contribute much.

Yeah, I guess when they only have half an hour per episode, Jeff’s role in the series is so minor that it didn’t make sense to keep him in.

I'm guessing we aren't going to get the "Dawn's Haunted House" storyline, since Jeff's not around, they live in the same neighborhood as Mary Anne, Kristy, and Claudia, and the house didn't appear to be particularly 1700s farm chic.

I love the attention to detail, like the Humpty Dumpty poster.

I was hoping for the haunted house/secret passage storyline myself!

I really liked this episode. I actually cried at the end when dawn is narrating about parents. I liked how they mixed in a bit of “Mary Anne saves the day “ (the book) into this episode as well.

Ugh, Kristy is just insufferable. She didn’t seem this bad in the books, but she is SO MEAN to Dawn. Who really acts like that?! I like that Dawn decided to ask Kristy for help in order to appease her. I don’t know why no one got on her for being just a jerk, though. Claud didn’t have an issue saying something about Kristy’s attitude in the first episode.
I always saw Kristy as a leader and a boss, but watching her in this series, I just see her as a brat who throws tantrums. She’s no leader, she’s a baby who gets mad when she doesn’t get her way. Even the Barretts weren’t that bad and they are younger and IN the situation with their parents.
Dawn is a lot more patient than I have her credit for. I would have been like, “Peace out!” after Kristy did the extended probation and attitude thing. I wouldn’t have tried and tried and tried to be her friend. Kristy doesn’t know how to be a friend, why should anyone try to win her favor???
Mrs. Barrett sucked. Hard. I wish we would have gotten a chance to know the kids. I always had a soft spot for Buddy, but I don’t feel like they really developed those characters in this episode.

It felt weird that Dawn was portrayed as initially doing a really good job with the kids (I wasn't sure if that would be revealed to be a dream) and that Kristy didn't give her any credit for that, the other members were not impressed enough to think that she earned to fully join, then it turns out that though she did do well it just takes a lot of effort each time, also that it seemed Mary Anne had not mentioned at all that Kristy's parents were divorced and her dad not involved.

Sharon was presented too much as LOVEABLE Great Parent! rather than at least mixed, at least being both amusing and frustrating.
