Mary Anne being able to be the star of the show is the most “off” thing to me in the whole series so far. I get they wanted to push MA and Logan together, but MA trying to be a star would end up like Charlotte at the Miss Stoneybrook pageant.
Also, I feel like sending your kids to sleep away camp is like sending your kids to private school—it’s a luxury to begin with. I just don’t see parents who can’t put money on their kids’ accounts sending their kids to a camp like that in the first place. I see where they’re going with activist Dawn, but she could have done something like plastic in the mess hall or something. Or am I off with my assessment of summer camp? I never went myself.

Camps like this are insanely expensive. I think kids can get scholarships to them like schools. I’ve never been to camp either. I’ve just seen things like Bug Juice on the Disney channel.

Yeah, I could buy Netflix!Mary Anne who was obsessed with musicals being able to direct one, but I don't find it believable that she would be able to step in and be the star of the show. That is absolutely not in line with her personality. And it wasn't even really necessary for the plot, because she and Logan didn't wind up kissing on stage anyway! I did like that she was the one who ended up giving Logan a kiss instead of vice versa. It was so cute that I didn't care whether it was in character for her or not.
That kind of camp has got to be really, really expensive. They're there all summer, right, for maybe eight weeks, instead of two weeks like in the book, which would have been more realistic for the Stoneybrookites? Although I have been to summer camp, I've never been to an expensive camp like that and I don't know anybody who has, either. I went to weeklong church camps (they were not very churchy at all) a few times. They weren't so big, and there was no horseback riding or archery or announcements on a camp-wide PA system, and you didn't have to buy tons of clothes with the camp logo (you got one camp logo T-shirt), but a lot of it seems pretty similar to Camp Moosehead in the show, just it was only for a week. Camp Moosehead doesn't seem as insanely expensive as Camp Sunnyside would have been, if you also read Camp Sunnyside Friends in the '80s and '90s -- that camp had tennis courts and it had a swimming pool even though there was also a lake because, you know, camp. Camp Moosehead mainly seems like it would be very expensive because the sessions are so long, instead of being for a week or two. We definitely did tie-dye at camp once. It didn't cost extra.
I also went to Girl Guide camp, but considering we slept in tents and used an outhouse and helped cook our own meals, I would assume that cost even less than church camp did.

That poison ivy makeup, lol! Stacey fell into the patch on her back and pushed off the ground with her hands. She did rub the eye that was swollen shut, but how did she get it all over her face, neck, and arms?
I thought the end was kinda lame. I guess I didn't see why they needed the CIT label so badly. The Mallory and Jessi part was also anticlimactic and rushed. Oh well, it sets up a season 2 if there is one.

I had to look up prices for camps, I know I went to sleep away camp but I had no idea how expensive it really was. Seems like they can be around $200 - $2000 a week! In that same vein, my parents never put money in my account because they didn't want me eating junk food (bad for teeth) or buying junk toys/souvenirs that would be tossed before school started. Also, I think there is probably a "we paid this much money, everything should be included" group of parents. Plus scholarship kids, kids who spent all their money and can't contact anyone to refill their account, etc. Some kids parents went on vacation as well and weren't easy to access. But that was the 90s, not 2020 when most of the prime vacation packages offer unlimited wifi and phones are tethered to every human. I also don't remember having to buy things for tie-dye. Why couldn't they just use one of the white camp tees they were required to bring? That plot line didn't make a lot of sense.
I laughed at the Hunger Games homage.
I wondered if the Camp Counselor was actually convinced or was more concerned about being sued by the Brewer estate. By keeping the kids at camp longer, there was more of a chance that no one would remember to tell Watson that Karen was unsupervised and managed to sneak off property.
Also, what a horrible camp counselor. It was nice watching how a normal person would react to the whole CIT thing in the first episode, but by part 2 I was convinced that they didn't like kids and were in the absolute wrong line of work.

I didn't think about it before, but it is a little strange that in the books, the Brewer-Thomas family stays home all summer so they can get used to living together as a family, but in the show, once Elizabeth and Watson get married, Kristy is immediately sent away for the whole summer. I forgot that I also went to drama camp, which was only three or four days, but we did have a tuck shop there where you could buy junk food. Well, that's kind of ridiculous, that apparently we couldn't go three or four days without junk food. We must have been a bunch of Claudias. And yes, I definitely remember bringing some money with me to buy chips and stuff!

Technically the camp lost 4 kids. Kristy, Jessi, and Mallory were also able to wander off all day and leave the property. Yes, Meanie was over the top. Like with Kristy and the archery game. Were the kids supposed to not interact with each other? They were trying to entertain themselves.

Mary Anne singing on stage--um no. But at least she is empowered and not being labeled a "feeb."
Aww, Mal and Jessi. They were perfectly introduced.
That just flew by--I think I'll watch the whole series again! Oh and I just realized the credits are in Stacey's handwriting. Nice.

The first time I was in a rush to just see them. The second time I enjoyed them more and caught more details.
