my dad, my mom, and my stepmom all come to our graduations, but it's not something i would encourage. of course, probably at seven i would have felt differently.

After this book, Watson/Elizabeth and Lisa/Seth didn't seem to uncomfortable around each other. It was nice that they all ate Thanksgiving dinner together in Karen's Movie Star, but I think this is something that is pretty rare in divorces.

^ I think so too, which is too bad. Too bad they couldn't all have just put aside their feelings for the kids' sake - like they did in Movie Star. I really liked that one. ;D

I thought Karen was incredibly obnoxious and spoiled in this book. I couldn't believe Karen had the nerve to whine about not having her two families (who both see her, love her, care for her and spoil her rotten) together, to the Thomas children, especially Kristy, who I recall was really insulted by this, because Karen must have known how Mr. Thomas left the kids the way he did. If she didn't know the whole story, she must have heard stuff about it, or realized the kids never saw or heard from their dad. I felt bad for the Thomas kids in this book. It must have hurt them to see Karen with two happy families, while their dad didn't care about them at all. I think that is where some of the Karen hostility is from in this family.

I thought it was unreasonable of Karen to want them all together, I have divorced parents too who have different partners now, and they would NOT all want to be in the same room, although my mom and dad would be okay. However, I don't think the adults handled it well. They took the party invitations too seriously instead of settling down to talk to her about why she did it, most people would just think she's pretending or looking for attention if they didn't give it much thought.
I loved reading the descriptions of the party best, especially the one at the little house, and I love the cover.

Yes, I can also agree. Karen's circus party sounded like fun. I wished I had one when I was her age!

Several years ago, my gradnfather just decided to take the whole family to the Clyde Beatty circus when it came around, under canvas and all. That popped to mind when I was reading this the other day.

Karen's birthday was one of my favorites. The cake and ice cream always made me hungry! I felt bad for Karen when her parents left her at school by accident. I also felt for her and Andrew because I know how it feels to have divorced parents. I often wished my parents would get remarried.

Ms. Colman was sweet about looking after Karen. She handled it well when no one was there to retrieve Karen.

Yeah I felt bad for Karen when she was left at school. Shame on Lisa and Watson.

I'd have to agree on feeling it was unreasonable of Karen to expect her two families to come together without protest. I think I thought that even when I was her age. I sort of felt bad for Lisa when she said she was sorry she couldn't afford the type of party for Karen that Watson could provide.

I felt really bad for Karen throughout the book. She was forgotten at school, she was called a brat by her parents, etc.

Does anyone else think that Seth looks HOOOOOOT on the cover of this book? Wowza! I'd date Seth for sure (love dark haired men with facial hair).
I felt bad for Karen. I could understand why she wanted both parents there. Although thought that it was odd for Nannie to say that Seth and Elizabeth would be weirded out by one another...
