Hi, everyone!
I had a hard time trying to think of a way to word this title, so thanks if you actually clicked!
I was wondering if there were any books in the series that you feel ended up in the wrong sub-series, if that makes sense. Basically, are there any books that you felt would work better as a mystery, super special, part of the original series, etc.?
For instance, I think that Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls, The Ghost at Dawn's House, Mary Anne's Bad-Luck Mystery, Mallory and the Mystery Diary, Stacey and the Mystery of Stoneybrook, and Kristy's Mystery Admirer all fit with the Mystery series more and definitely would have been a part of that if it had been going on when they were written. Likewise, I think that Mary Anne and the Secret in the Attic and The Mystery at Claudia's House fit in more with the original series, and arguably Mary Anne and the Secret in the Attic should have been an original series entry because it reveals so much more about Mary Anne's backstory. Also, if Stacey's Mistake had come later on, I think it would have been a super special, which basically would have made New York, New York! unnecessary, but still. I'm sure there are more instances of this that I can't remember right now, but I'll be sure to post them in the comments if I think of anymore.
So, are there any books that you guys think belong in a different sub-series?

I really wish ma and the secret in the attic should have been a regular book! A lot of the earlier mysteries that were more realistic could have been in the regular series tbh.

Kristy and the Baby Parade should have been a super special. Yes, I am serious. Yes, I am the only person on this board who likes this book.

If Claudia and the Great Search was a regular book, I think that Mary Anne and the Secret in the Attic should have been. Additionally, I think a lot of the earlier mysteries really drag out things to seem ~mysterious~, you know? Like a still love them, but I see that a lot.

I might have to agree with you on both of those statements! Haha Kristy and the Baby Parade is not my favorite in any respect, but I think it's because the story was mismanaged, if that makes sense. As a super special we could have seen everyone's parts that the book only alluded to, like Claudia and the float, Mallory and the costumes, etc; hearing everyone's opinions on the process of being in the parade. Then it would have made a lot more sense when everyone falls out and Stacey and Mallory fight. If Starring the BSC is a super special, I don't see why the Baby Parade couldn't have been. Similarly, I think that Kristy's Worst Idea could have been a super special. I love it as is, but I think the super special treatment would serve it well. Was Babysitters Remember from around the same time, though?

Did Charlie ever get a chapter in any super specials? I think Sam had a couple.

I kind really wish we had boy crazy stacey as a super special. It would have been cool to see how Claudia's trip was going and the first introduction of Dawn's California clients. It would have been better then sea city here we come.

It would have been better then sea city here we come. Yeah, I agree. It was also the introduction of Sea City, if I'm remembering right, so that would have been a pretty good way to get the whole other location jump-started. Plus I like those Sea City interactions/storylines better than in SS 10. I'm reading Sea City Here We Come! for the first time right now, and already it's not my favorite Super Special. I think it's odd that all the girls are coming at different times and some of them are staying at the Barrett's. Plus the subplot about Mini-camp that only lasts a couple chapters seems unneeded. Also Toby (15) going after Mallory and Jessi (11) is really weird and creepy. I don't see why all the girls couldn't be staying with the Pikes, all went to Sea City at the same time instead of waiting until almost the middle of the book for everyone to be there, and why Toby couldn't be going after, like Kristy or something. I think that still could have been a surprise for Stacey where she and Kristy are probably the least alike in the whole group. I might end up loving it by the end, though. Who knows!

Kristy and the Baby Parade would be so fun as a Super Special! It's the sort of story in which it would be great to hear all of the characters' experiences. I also think Kristy's Worst Idea had the sort of story which really should have had chapters from each characters' perspective. I would have loved to hear each girls' first person account of the situation and how they felt about the 'break up.' I also think either the Fire at Mary Anne's house should have had chapters from each of the characters or there should have been another final book with chapters from each character. I definitely agree that some of the regular books should have been mysteries too.

Mary Anne and the music box mystery should have totally been a regular book. I mean the main plot is a good mystery but the subplot is about the Barrett/DeWitt family finishing up the addition to their house, which was introduced in a regular book. Why not finish up that arc in the main series?

I totally agree about The Fire at Mary Anne's House, Elsie. I think maybe FF: Everything Changes could have been the ending super special for the original series rather than the starting super special for Friends Forever. Honestly, I think the original series could have ended on the girls graduating SMS and Friends Forever could have followed them into high school.
And I agree about Mary Anne and the Music Box Mystery, Nancy! I've noticed that a lot of the mysteries bring in subplots that tie-in to the main series. I could see where they wouldn't want some of the story lines clogging up the main books, but they also shouldn't have assumed that everybody that read the originals read the mysteries and vice-versa.

I haven't read the FF Super Special's yet, but I'd have to agree that it would be a better ending point for the actual series than a starting point for FF. I also think that having the FF follow them into high school would have made so much sense...I'm not sure I want to know about all the changes and stuff that would come with them starting high school, but it would make more sense than making a new sub series featuring the characters in same grade that they've been in for ages. I've never read the Music Box Mystery or MA and the Secret Attic, but now I really want to, it sounds like I've missed out on some important plot points in the Secret Attic.

Yeah, I haven't read an entire FF yet, but I agree that a move to high school is a real reason for a reboot rather than just breaking up the BSC but keeping them in 8th grade for the 13th year in a row. Haha I only read Secret in the Attic a couple months ago, but it's pretty much essential for the main series arcs. I won't give you any spoilers, but it explains a lot about Mary Anne and Richard's lives.

Secret In the attic is a doozy, it really should’ve been a regular book especially if you feel like Richard is a super strict parent, because it totally explains a lot.
