Another would be Stacy in the haunted masquerade. Again the main plot fits the mystery theme but this is the introduction to Cary Retlin. Like if you picked up Kristy in charge there’s gonna be a little recap but to fully get to know him better you’re going need to read the mystery book. It should have been in the original series or at least his introduction should’ve been.

Yeah, I agree! I really love Stacey and the Haunted Masquerade, it's one of my favorite of the mysteries, but I think that Cary should have been introduced in the main series. I was surprised when I looked him up on the wiki that most of his appearances were in the mysteries over the main, but I still think that if he was going to cross over, he should have been properly introduced in the main series. Or even in both! He plays a huge role in Kristy and the Cat Burglar, but do we ever see him again after that? I can't remember.

I particularly liked him in MA’s revenge, he has some good plots.

Ah, okay! He was introduced pretty late into the series (Post Dawn) so I wonder if they originally planned on him being a main part of Friends Forever, or if they just liked him enough to carry (Pun intended) him over? He's a pretty cool character, so I can see why they would want to keep him on.

Kristy and the Mother's Day Surprise would have been a great super special. Everyone could get a point of view and maybe Watson could get a chapter explaining how they got her so quickly.

That would have been a good one! Did we ever get a chapter from one of the parents?

Hi, everyone! I had a hard time trying to think of a way to word this title, so thanks if you actually clicked! I was wondering if there were any books in the series that you feel ended up in the wrong sub-series, if that makes sense. Basically, are there any books that you felt would work better as a mystery, super special, part of the original series, etc.? For instance, I think that Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls, The Ghost at Dawn's House, Mary Anne's Bad-Luck Mystery, Mallory and the Mystery Diary, Stacey and the Mystery of Stoneybrook, and Kristy's Mystery Admirer all fit with the Mystery series more and definitely would have been a part of that if it had been going on when they were written. Likewise, I think that Mary Anne and the Secret in the Attic and The Mystery at Claudia's House fit in more with the original series, and arguably Mary Anne and the Secret in the Attic should have been an original series entry because it reveals so much more about Mary Anne's backstory. Also, if Stacey's Mistake had come later on, I think it would have been a super special, which basically would have made New York, New York! unnecessary, but still. I'm sure there are more instances of this that I can't remember right now, but I'll be sure to post them in the comments if I think of anymore. So, are there any books that you guys think belong in a different sub-series? The reason for many of the books, especially the ones in the 30s, is because they were probably trying to test for a mystery series and see if the kids jumped on board the ones they'd already done. #35 was actually originally going to be called "Stacey and the New Kids on the Block", which originally had a plot involving Stacey and some new kids bonding over being diabetic. There were hints around this time of Stacey not feeling well, which was to come to a head there. However, they decided to work on the mystery test screens instead (so to speak) and they pushed it ahead to "Stacey's Emergency", at least ten books after it was first mentioned. I totally agree about the two mystery books you mentioned, though. They weren't mysteries, really. Especially The Mystery at Claudia's House. The weird thing there, is that Mallory is the only one that hits on the real reason Janine is borrowing Claudia's things and everyone laughs at her because that can't possibly be the reason. Then at the end, someone is like "Remember how we all laughed at Mallory, but she was right the whole time?"

Yeah, I've wondered about the mysteries in the 30s, especially since they were written by Ellen Miles, the chief ghostwriter of the mysteries. And thank you for mentioning Stacey and the New Kids on the Block! I have been trying to remember for so long what the name of the cancelled Stacey book was!
And I also thought it was funny that no one believed Mallory. What other reason does a teenage girl have to be staying out after curfew and wearing makeup all of the sudden? Mallory's a fellow nerd, she knows! haha

I wonder how Dawn Saves the Planet would have worked as a super special? Or at least I would have liked to see STacey's thought process during that book.

Little Miss Stoneybrook and Dawn, Dawn and the Big Sleepover, and Dawn and the School Spirit War could all be expanded. She happens to have a lot of big project books where other points of view would be interesting. Poor Mallory would probably be too similar to Ten Kids, No Pets, but imagine each Pike getting a chapter or two about their family fundraising efforts.

I would have loved to see Vanessa styling hair on the playground in book 39. Alan would have had a good chapter in 84 since that's where his mom stood up and accused that not participating included kids getting into drugs or whatever. I would have been interested in seeing what he had to say.

That would have been really neat, actually! Family super specials for each of the girls would have actually been really interesting.

I didn't like Ten Kids and No Pets. It's not their fault there's too many kids in the family and Mrs Rosso used it an excuse not to let them have a pet. I mean they were going to have another kid so why not let them have a pet? It's kind of hypocritical otherwise.
She didn't let them keep the rabbit so what made the twins so sure they were going to keep the turkey as a pet. And talk about hypocrites. They didnt want to kill a live turkey but we're fine eating store bought. I mean where do they think store bought turkeys come from.
