This was one of my first LS books, I actually like this one since it has a lot of backstory to it. I liked reading about Lisa and Watson's relationship, and it was cute how Karen first met Hannie and Nancy. Hmm...Apparently Karen got her name because it meant 'pure', and Watson felt 'pure joy' when she was born. They also considered naming her, Arlene, Joanna, Bethany, Katherine, or Erica. Some of those names are hard to picture her with, since they are so... un-karenish. And this book even talks about Watson and Elizabeth's Wedding and the first time Kristy sat for Karen!

^ I don't remember ever having read this one but it sounds really good. Is it similar to the BSC Portrait books? I might have to buy it as I don't think the library even has it.

Yes, it is similar to the BSC portrait books, although it's not a special edition or anything. It's LS #100. I just read it for the first time maybe a month ago.

^ Thanks. I will definitely check at the library and then buy if they don't have it as I am really curious to read about Karen's early life and always love LS books, anyway ;D

I didn't remember there was already a thread about this book, and yet I go back here and see I already posted in it. ;D
A bunch of parts made me laugh:
1. Karen thinking of ways to describe the day she was born and this was a possibility: It was a beautiful Spring day. People everywhere were talking about it. "What a beautiful day to be born!" said a man on the street. "Yes, I wish I could have been born on a day like today," said a woman.
2. Karen's story about going to the supermarket with Lisa: Karen go to market with Mommy. Buy milk. Buy eggs. Buy cookies. Eat cookies! Love cookies! The end.
3. Karen telling Seth, "Yes, we will marry you!"
4. "Little House, Big House: My Life Story, by Karen Brewer," I said. Emily started clapping. "Quiet, please. I have not even started the story yet," I said.
Emily is so cute. ;D

^ That is so cute about Karen and Seth ;D Emily is cute, too. I'll have to read this one next week. I keep putting it off trying to get through my "summer" books before Labor Day but it sounds really good. Karenthebrat, just noticed your signature quote. (I think it's been there forever but I'm a little slow sometimes ;D) I love that part of Karen's Newspaper ;D

Just read this one and liked it pretty well. It was cute reading about Karen writing a book about herself. Reminded me of how I wrote "My Dog Bitsey" when I was really little. ;D I enjoyed reading how she met Nancy and Hannie and about her birth. Loved the part about Seth. I wished it would have said more about the divorce, though, but I suppose they couldn't do much more in a LS book. Still, more than just "we moved because my parents got divorced" would have made me happy.

i don't know, i thought it was pretty detailed about it. plus karen had to have been very young when they got divorced so she wouldn't remember much about it anyway.

Still, more than just "we moved because my parents got divorced" would have made me happy. I liked how Karen and Nancy were trying to guess each other's names. Although I thought it was pretty far-fetched that Nancy's name would be "Roblink" when Nancy was hinting that the second part of her name was "something you can do with your eye". ;D I guess that would make sense, now that I think about it, that Karen wouldn't talk much about the divorce in her book. I doubt Watson or Lisa would go into details about it with her, except to say that they don't love each other anymore and it would be best if they weren't married to each other.
