I don't really have a lot to say about this book, just that I was re-reading it recently and I think it's probably one of my favorites. I love the plot...it's so much more interesting than most of them. I also love how Karen and Diana solve a real mystery (well...sort of) as opposed to trying to figure out....who forgot to put the cap back on the toothpaste or who ate the last cookie or something like that.

I thought it was a little odd that Diana was Karen's first cousin and they'd never met before. That was this book, wasn't it, with the family reunion? Karen didn't seem very close to any of her relatives. I forget which book it was, but one Thanksgiving Karen and Andrew were surprised by Lisa's parents coming over for dinner...and they apparently lived in Stoneybrook. Now unless they're the kind of grandparents that go to Arizona or Florida for the winter I would pretty much expect to see them on the holidays.

^ I guess I didn't consider that it was odd but this might be because I've had some cousins that I didn't meet until I was about 13. But that is because our families were slightly estranged.... Was Diana Karen's 1st cousin, though? I always assumed 3rd. Agree that Karen never seemed close to her family. I know Grandma Packett was mentioned in Karen's Witch (so funny when she shows up on Watson - her ex-son in law's doorstep to bring Karen home from Morbidda's and he is like "what are you doing here" while trying to be polite ;D) but most of the time, it's Granny and Grandad who are mentioned in the LS books. This is one of the LS books I still need to get. I have only read it twice but liked it pretty well. And it has great food descriptions in it ;D

Yeah, they're first cousins. Diana's mother is Lisa's sister, Karen's Aunt Ellen. And apparently Diana's four-year old sister Kelsey morphed into Diana's four-year old brother Kelsey somewhere between book 76 and book 120. ROFL.
Edit to add: I thought it was very strange that they'd never met before either. There didn't really seem to be any animosity between Lisa and Ellen when they first reunited.

^ Agree about no animosity between Lisa and Ellen. I guess the kids not meeting was just one of the things I overlook and never think about ;D

I haven't read this one, although I do own it. Where does Diana's family live? If they live kind of far away, it wouldn't be so unusual for Karen not to have met her before.

^ I'm thinking that they did live quiet a ways away - several hours at least - but am not sure. I just got this one in a big lot off ebay (came in the mail Fri. ;D) so am anxious to reread.

I just re read this one and I loved it as usual. For some reason I just loved the idea of finding a "magic garden" and uncovering the mystery.

I guess I didn't picture the garden as looking as beautiful in reality as it did on the cover but I did think it was exciting. I also thought it was sad that Diana and Karen had never met. As for Kelsey becoming a boy later either the ghostwriters messed up or someone wanted to make Andrew a boy cousin to play with.

And apparently Diana's four-year old sister Kelsey morphed into Diana's four-year old brother Kelsey somewhere between book 76 and book 120. ROFL. Lmao, I was just about to bring that up! When I read book 120 and saw that Kelsey was a he and not a she anymore, I was so confused and thought that I read wrong in book 76 or something lol. It was around this time that I realized that these books were written by ghostwriters and that this one screwed up majorly lol. Anyway, I loved this book. My favorite part was early on, when the little-house family is driving to Maine and Karen is bored out of her mind and she basically states that in her narrations ("I looked out the window and all I could see on one side was trees, trees, trees and on the other side, water, water, water" lol, I just happened to find that line hilarious ;D) Also did anyone else get hungry after reading this book? My mouth was watering at the part where they were all eating at the restaurant.

^ This book always makes me hungry, too. Has some of the best food descriptions in a BSC or LS book, I think. I was disappointed the other day to see that I didn't have this one and thought I did. I might have to get it now.

I picked this one up at Goodwill the other day and it has to be my favorite. I thought the relationship between Diana and Karen was cute. I loved the Annemarie/Polly part of it and as everyone has said, the food descriptions made me so hungry! I liked the garden and the whole sleeping on the porch thing. It's funny though, because her cousin Theresa who is twelve seemed so much younger than the twelve year olds in the regular BSC books (the beginning of the series) and even younger than Mallory and Jessi!
