i haven't read the book, but as a kid i would have chosen sleeping on the porch over sleeping in a spare bedroom anyday!

I would have too. But there's a scene in which it's raining really hard and all of the kids get wet sleeping on the porch. That wouldn't be fun. Not to mention a possible cold!

I just re-read this for the second time and really enjoyed it. I have seen several versions of the movie Secret Garden and liked the extras about the characters. I thought Aunt Carol and Uncle John sounded like nice people, especially to open their home to so many. The screened in porch sounded like a fun place to camp out by camping "in" during the summer though I'm not too sure about the dripping rain coming inside. That reminds me of one apartment I lived in that had a skylight in my bedroom that always leaked. It was cool to have but not during a storm.

Surely someone has wanted to visit this magic garden over the last year? I just finished rereading and loved the entire story. I know this was a regular (non Super Special) book but it felt longer and I wouldn't have minded if it had been. One question, when do Grandma and Grandpa Packett move to Maine? Karen tells us that they did on the very bottom and tops of pages 23 and 24. At the bottom and top of pages 14 and 15, Karen also shares that she last saw her Aunt Ellen (Lisa's sister) when she was only 6 months old. Lisa lived in Lobster Cove herself (page 9) when she was little. I wonder if she grew up there and what brought her to Stoneybrook. The garden itself sounded beautiful and peaceful, loved how everyone pitched in to help clean it up. An Andrew consistency that made me smile was at the end when Karen he was saying goodbye to Prince Caliber, Cousin Kelsey's frog and that he had grown to love it. I remember he, Kristy, and some other went looking for frogs and toads in "Baby-sitters' Haunted House" and Andrew wrote "Hi Ri-bid" (or something like that) on a postcard to his dad. I am now thinking of the books frog and toad. Did the BSC kids ever read those? I loved the story about the cookies when I was little and how (I don't remember which one frog or toad, I mean) tried hiding them to not eat as many and how that didn't work. I used to love cookies myself and can relate. Also the mail literally delivered by a snail. Mail reminds me did Karen and Diana have any contact between this book and Easter Parade?
