What do you think would be different or stay the same? Honestly since a lot of plots does seem more high school like I can’t imagine it’d be that different aside from a plot about driving. Mature plots doesn’t have to equal drinking, smoking, etc.

I doubt the parents would have had the girls driving their kids around, but what if Kristy wanted to invest in a "company" vehicle? Lol.

I love that idea entirely too much.

My first thought is all the puberty stuff would be different. The original series never touched on periods and bras were still a rite of passage.

That would have been neat, although they would be adjusting to ninth grade.
Definitely, there would be far more on periods, puberty and they'd definitely have acne.
Their NYC visits would be routine and there would be lots more talk on career and university planning.
There also would be lots more talk on becoming sexually active and on using proper protection.

That would be a fantastic idea. Start the older girls out as freshman and the series will be good to go.

But what would the target audience be then? BSC's recommended reading level is like 8 years old. It would be creepy to have a high school series for them.

I don't think it would be so "creepy," especially if the target audience was then around eleven and up. I see the BSC's high school years being sort of akin to the 1984 film Teachers. Did you ever see that film? Great film and very funny, yet deep also. I think of the BSC's high school years as a feminist coming-of-age epic.

It would be extremely tricky and unrealistic to avoid the topic of puberty, drinking, sex, swearing, wild parties, rebellion, political things and career pondering in high school, especially late high school...unless it's something like Sweet Valley.
And I sure would not want to see the BSC gang and their classmates turned into Sweet Valley clones...that would be quite horrifying.
It's a large part of why I wrote my fanfics The BSC Legacy...to see the BSC go through a true, real adolescence.

I think I've mentioned this in another thread, but I feel that the Friends Forever series would have made more sense if the girls were in high school, since there is less of a focus on their baby sitting business and more friendship/relationship drama.
I think that if the books had been extended into high school, there may have been plots regarding some of the girls growing apart from each other as they begin to start jobs, worry about university, and other responsibilities.

I love that idea, I think it would be cool to see where the girls are applying to colleges, whose friendships would end and who new ones would be with, whose still baby-sitting. The friends forever series had a lot of potential.

I like the idea of Kristy wanting to get a company vehicle, it would take some pressure off Charlie!
Honestly, I think it would be MORE realistic if they were in high school. Like as a kid it didn't bother me. But now as an adult, reading about all the adventures these girls have. They're 11 and 13 - they're babies themselves! But that could just be me LOL.
As I said in another thread too, I don't think the BSC would last all the way through high school. With extra schoolwork and new extra-curriculars and later on prep for SATs and college visits, I think they just wouldn't have anymore time to meet three times a week. They'd still babysit on their own, of course. But I don't see the full-functioning club lasting through 12th grade.
