^I wouldn't trust Karen's taste in men. Her husband seemed like a doofus.

^ Bwahahahahahahaha! A grown-up Ricky Torres would be interesting to see. Why does a mullet and bottle-cap glasses come to mind!?

I quickly read this morning to cool off a little (this is a very snowy book). The palm tree man was quite the illustration, lol. I'm not sure at 7 if I would have been scared or excited, maybe both at his showing up. I also did feel badly Karen, it sounded like in her mind Bart was asking her out on a date. I truly think for Bart the invite was a spur of the moment, nice thing to do. If he did know Kristy and DM were going to be there (which was very kind of him to invite DM, wish we had gotten to hear more about the movie from DM's perspective simply because his older siblings don't often take him places), he should have added that on.
All the many Miss Fern the plant references I admit got old to me. The only thing that made me sad about this book was when Karen and Andrew (and Watson) are sad that their weekend has ended. Watson says he will see them in two weeks. The next scene is when the BSC is called in. I know this is something I have said many a time before. I also realized that not that the next book after this but the one right after that is Karen's Two Families where she and Andrew end up with equal time at both houses. If ever there was a very clear case of when Karen truly should have asked her mom if she and Andrew could have spent the two weeks Lisa was filling in for Seth's secretary with their dad, this was it! I am glad Bart was a success and oh this is the book with the bowling on the stairs! Bart NOT Mary Anne for David Michael, sets up water bottles at the bottom of the Engles' staircase and Andrew, Karen, and some of their friends bowl. Still would have loved reading the original scene,it was never told live or really even in description, just mentioned casually by DM to MA about them doing the same.

I think there could have been a more creative name for the plant!

There wasn't a whole lot of plot for me in this one. Every baby-sitting day was pretty much the same. Winter Olympics. Inside Olympics. Bart's a mess. Miss Fern. Repeat. I didn't understand how nobody in the BSC was available for two weeks straight. Unless Lisa really wanted the same person there each day? Even then they should have been able to rearrange some jobs to give one girl a clear path.
Karen earned her "I'm good at being evil" quote in this. However, I was like "What is he doing inviting her over? That's creepy." (I didn't remember the plot, lol.) Do we think that Lisa knew Kristy would be there? If she didn't then that's weird, too.
OMG, I just read a Reddit thread yesterday where a dad wanted his wife to talk to their 7 year old daughter about cheating on her "boyfriend" because she held hands with a different boy. Karen was having this internal struggle about Ricky. God, I hope little girls are not really feeling the pressure to stay "faithful."
I liked The Incredible Journey and Homeward Bound. Many years later I learned that a lot of animals died for those movies. Apparently the "no animals were harmed in the making of this film" disclaimer did not apply to these. Homeward Bound was released in Feb. 1993, and this book was Feb. 1994. So, they went to the movies a year late, but that is a lot closer than I would have expected.
Tree Guy wasn't all that funny to me. (Did he have a driver? He looked like he was stuck in a mermaid gown.) However, I thought it was funny that Andrew just happened to be running around in his bathing suit when the guy showed up. Andrew was ready for that vacay.
