Stacey and Dawn? How do you think Hodges could/should have made them look more different?

Give Dawn the hair that she deserved. He didn’t seem to understand what waist length hair meant.

^ Plus in certain covers, her hair wasn't much lighter than Stacey's. Like on the cover of Dawn's Big Move, her hair color is pretty close to Stacey's. And in Dawn's Wicked Stepsister, her hair isn't light at all. The same goes for Mary Anne's Makeover. I couldn't tell whether that was supposed to be Dawn or Stacey on the cover. I assumed it be to be Dawn though.

Stacey is also supposed to have perms until the later books. There should be a noticeable difference in texture alone.

Stacey is supposed to have a perm right? So I imagined her hair as super curly. Dawn definitely needs to have her hair waist length and a lot lighter.
I thought I’d Shannon too since she’s on the cover of the baby-sitters remember. Which one is her and which one is Stacey?

They could exaggerate Stacey’s cooler clothes and Dawn dressing like a farmer.

I think I could usually tell the difference between them as Stacey's hair tended to be thicker and Dawn's straighter, but there are some covers where they look interchangeable. And I agree about Shannon on Baby-Sitters Remember, too, she looks identical to Stacey.
We really should have been able to tell by their clothes, because Stacey should always have been in sophisticated outfits and Dawn in her California clothes. Kristy and Mary Anne also look pretty similar (pre-Mary Anne's Makeover) but it was usually easier to tell them apart because of Kristy's uniform and Mary Anne's pigtails.

I just found out there's a BSC subreddit and they were discussing that same cover yesterday. I'm guessing we have some people who post on both places.

Kind of a response to seastar, but more of a question for anyone: Besides Great Idea and Big Day, were there any covers that Kristy's hair was not in a pony tail?

In a lot of the books, it says Stacey likes to do crazy things with her hair, like "put glitter in it" (direct quote from #33). Hodges should have showed a few different hairstyles, maybe some scrunchies (were those cool back then?).
And obviously, Dawn's hair needed to be lighter and Stacey's curlier.
@sparklemouse, no. I think it the books Kristy religiously kept her hair up (unlike the netflix show).

^ Speaking of reusing hairstyles, Claudia got a side pony a lot. Sometimes she would get really wild and have a high pony instead. Her hair was so creative in the books and the covers didn't show that.

^Karen also had a side pony tail tons. Now I wonder how many covers have Karen with her hair down. (She often had really glorious long hair like an actual horse butt. I have realized recently that Karen is basically Jojo Siwa both in looks and energy level.)
