I re-read this book on Hallowe'en (at about 11:30pm) in honour of the holiday. It was the first Halloween BSC/LS book that came to mind (And something that I could finish quickly).

^ Yes! (A year later, I'm answering this as I re-read this book for the Hallowe'en season).
So good! Definitely one of my favourite LS books. I love the Hallowe'en feel, costumes - The Wizard of Oz, this is Ann M. Martin, after all, haha - Karen getting in trouble, candy, ghosts, class party!
A must read for October!

I really want to start re-reading the LS... I only have three left and then I have them all! I should rstart and hopefully by the time I get to the 3 I need (higher numbers) I'll have them!
This is a lower numbered one right?

I like all of those things too virgo, but I thought it was the best when she found those pages stuck on the diary and how elizabeth was making the cake....I wonder if kristy or someone stuck them in to get her off her back

This is easily my favorite Little Sister book! I love the part about the class party. It's such a fun Halloween story.

I'm reading this and David Michael says maybe his mom will help him "make" a Ninja Turtle costume. I think they could probably afford to buy one Love the pic of Emily ;D

That's something I liked about Karen. She could afford an extravagant new costume every year but chose to stick with the same old, pretty simple witch.

^ Doesn't she stop being a witch in one of the later LS Hallowe'en books? I forget which one.

She was Pippi Longstocking in Karen's Little Witch, I loved reading about that when she was putting together the costume, hair and makeup She did it cause Stoneybrook Academy chose a theme for each classroom cause of their Halloween parade/show onstage, and their class was Storybook characters. She was going to be a witch from any story, but chose Pippi. I think back then people actually made costumes and went out of their way to be creative, while these days both parents are busier with work and can easily pick up a costume from the nearest walmart

Dawn was also Pippi in her Halloween mystery. Yeah, I liked that they made their costumes, it just occurred to me that the Turtle costume might look "cooler" if it was store-bought, but a homemade one would probably look just fine too. My mom once made me a Pocahontas-like costume (for a school program, not Halloween) and I loved it

I remember my sister had an Ariel costume from The Little Mermaid made for her and she loved it a lot. She even had her hair spray painted red. Looking back, she mentioned how she loved that costume way more than store-bought or "professional" looking ones.

I always wondered why the kids changed into their costumes right before the party, at the end of the day...wouldn't it have been more fun for them to wear their costumes to school? That's what we always did at my school. And what if some of the kids were shy and didn't want to change into their costumes there in the classroom? I had a sudden flashback to fourth grade, when we changed into our costumes midday in the classroom. The girls stayed in our classroom to change, and the girls from the class across the hall joined us. The boys in our class went across the hall to change with the boys in that class. While we were changing, one of the boys in our class raced back into the room, grabbed something from his desk, and raced back out. I'm sure you can imagine the screaming that we did upon seeing a boy coming back into the room! I remember our teacher yelling "Brian, what are you DOING? The girls are CHANGING!" Later we found out that a bunch of the guys had dared him to run back in the room. I had totally forgotten about this until just now...it's so funny how reading here can bring up old random memories. On the topic of this book, I still love that Karen thought a ghost was baking a cake in the middle of the night. I also love Elizabeth's reason for baking the cake - because Emily learned to count to ten. I just thought that was really cute and something I would do, if I had kids. I never pass up any excuse to bake!
