Ha! I just remembered a time in third grade, when we had our Halloween costumes in bags at the front of the classroom to change into later, and a boy was bothering me so I threw his pencil into the costumes and he threw my pencil into the hall and we both missed recess. That would have been a few years before this book was written. I think we changed at school because some kids had big bulky costumes that would have made doing any classwork before the party difficult. Also because it was the '80s, so a lot of us had those cheap plastic masks with tiny little eye holes that you could barely see anything out of.

I wonder what happened to Mr. Giordano? (Kristy's neighbour who lived on the side opposite Ms. Porter - so closer to Abby's place). Maybe he moved away? Ann never really mentions him again.
I like this book! I liked hearing about the kids' costumes. I heard that some schools today don't allow costumes but instead encourage kids to dress up in black and orange or something.

I love all the Little Sister Halloween and holiday books, but this is one of my favorites. I loved hearing about the ghost in the attic.

What a fun and definitely spooky story! I hadn't read one of the very early LS in a while and it was great feeling the extra excitement. I loved that for once Ricky and Scott accompanied Karen, her friends, and siblings to go trick or treating. The only thing is in the illustration on page 80. David Michael is dressed up as the Scarecrow (Ricky was the Scarecrow and DM was the Lion). I love Emily's munchkin costume to me looks like a flower suit with 4 cookie buttons on it. This story got me thinking if Watson's mother (Jeremy's wife) had been featured mom whether Karen might have ever asked her about her husband or even Ben. I still think this could have made for quite a project in "Karen's Field Day," when Karen was supposed to research a famous woman in her family. Either Ben or Jeremy's wife might have had quite a tale.

I loved that Ricky joined Karen and everyone to go trick or treating too. I think this might be my favorite LS Halloween book, but it's a close race.

Maybe Ricky doesn't live all that far away from Watson's house, just far enough that we don't hear much about his being near.

Inconsistency: When David Michael calls Karen at the little house, he tells her, "Daddy and Elizabeth bought me a real lion costume!" Which is very nice, but he should call them Mom and Watson. It says Mommy and Watson in my book. Hmm. I did find an inconsistency that “Linny” opened the door for Karen. Hannie later spoke about her brother “Linnie”. I always wondered why the kids changed into their costumes right before the party, at the end of the day...wouldn't it have been more fun for them to wear their costumes to school? That's what we always did at my school. And what if some of the kids were shy and didn't want to change into their costumes there in the classroom? We had to wait until the party or it would be too distracting for the rest of the day. We also had to wear things that could slip on over top of our clothes and not need any prep time like Karen's face paint. Pamela and her too cool for school friends, going as waitresses and flight attendants and punk rockers, ha. I also like when Karen and Nancy are discussing which scary story to tell at school, and Nancy's best try is (paraphrasing): "You know that charm bracelet I used to have? I lost it one day, and it turns out a leprechaun STOLE it...because I found it in my underwear drawer, and I NEVER keep it there." Hmm. Pamela and her friends made adult me want to cry, lol. I hope she meant cool 50s sock hop diner waitress. She ended up being an "airline stewardess" which shows how outdated this book is. Oh, and Ricky was going to be a “gas station person”. *cries* I loved that leprechaun story! I didn't know leprechauns were into underwear, lol. That makes them scarier than a ghost. I like how David Michael decided they would use Emily’s cuteness to manipulate people into giving them more candy. Then it actually worked at one house, and he was all “haha, yeah it did”. Has anyone tried fried dandelions? They are a thing that you can do. This was part of a review I read: I love mushrooms. Dog pee, not so much. I thought it was kinda cool but also strange and creepy that Ben’s room was untouched for all that time. The girls said the room smelled musty from being closed up for so long. Clean that sucker out, geez! The ghost story in its entirety: It’s a pretty solid little ghost story!
