Porter is Morbidda Destiny's last name too.

Didn't they say something about that guy being related to Morbidda Destiny too, or am I losing it? I looooooved this book... it was definitely one of my faves. I need to reread it... I love the recluse=wrecked things too. Andy Pandy... oh so cute!

There has got to be some connection among all those Porters!

I swear! The boy who died was MD's brother... right? I swear I remember that! Cause didn't Karen hear the last name Porter and be like "*gasp* Porter?"

Karen's Ghost was one of my favorites. I remember the story about Ben Brewer, Watson's grandfather. lol at Andrew's definition of recluse.

I swear! The boy who died was MD's brother... right? I swear I remember that! Cause didn't Karen hear the last name Porter and be like "*gasp* Porter?" When Karen reads the diary she wonders if Edward is someone in Mrs. Porter's family, and at the end Hannie wonders aloud if she's Edward's niece or younger sister. I think there has to be a relation. He and Ben were best friends and he could have lived in what is now Mrs. Porter's house, since it's so close to the Brewers' house. It's not confirmed that Edward did drown, just that a lot of people thought so, and Ben's son Jeremy wrote that the ghost who haunted his father was always wet. It's interesting that Mrs. Porter is a recluse, just like Ben Brewer was.

Wow, I've really forgotten details in not having read this book in a long time.

I never really noticed that it's a rather detailed ghost story for a 7 year old to tell. If Karen happened to make stuff up to add to what she was told then she did a good job of keeping things consistent with the original story.

Karen's Ghost was interesting, especially during Halloween time. The story that Karen told about the ghost was kind of spooky.

Hands down, my favorite LS book. I read it every Halloween. I like how it's the perfect scary story for kids, and doesn't tie up all the loose ends of the mystery. My favorite parts are when Karen and Kristy look in Ben Brewer's room, and when Karen thinks there is a ghost birthday party, with the smell of cake baking.

Isn't it Elizabeth doing the baking?

Yes - she baked a cake in honor of Emily when she learned to count to ten.

That's a sweet (pun intended) thing for her to do. As I'm watching my dd (who's two-and-a-half) learn to count, I'm wondering how much of what it means she understands yet, so I wonder the same thing about Emily. But of course getting the right words is the first step.

Kristy really did seem freaked out when she was up there with Karen, but in the BSC books, they make it seem like a game.

I know! She is always skeptical and impatient with Karen in BSC, but in LS, she's scared. I wonder if that's just how Karen views it...
