100$ is a VERY generous reward. And to a seven year old, even rich ones, 100$ seems like a lot of money.

Was it said why that guy who wasn't even from Stoneybrook was walking around the little house neighborhood with $800 cash in his wallet? That sounds very suspicious to me.

Yeah, it does seem suspicious. Maybe he was working in the area or visiting friends or family.

I don't think it said that he wasn't from Stoneybrook. I just skimmed the book quickly and it didn't say where he was from. When the wallet was first missing, Seth said maybe the person who lost it wasn't from Stoneybrook, and later Karen says she doesn't know where Mr. Beadle lives, but that doesn't mean he can't live in Stoneybrook. It's still kind of weird to be walking around a residential neighborhood with that much cash though. Maybe he had just cashed his paycheck and was walking home or something.
Karen is pretty status conscious for a little kid. She always notices when people are wearing a worn-out shirt and faded jeans or something. She was also really critical of the condition of the house and the truck they drove when she first saw Granny and Grandad's house in the second super special.

Yeah, I agree that Karen can be very aware of the things that go on around her. To me that's a good thing.

I was like that too as a kid (and even today as an adult) ;D. I always noticed the little tidbits around me that no one else did.

I think scrounge meant Karen is not only noticing, but judging.
I also wonder why Mr Beadle didn't put his money in the bank? Especially if he'd saved it for a family holiday...

The T-Rex roller coaster sounds like fun. I'm just picturing it, when Karen, her friends & her brother & his friend enter the mouth of the T-Rex. Did they climb up a flight of stairs to get to the mouth of T-Rex?
$800 dollars is lot of money to get lost. Depend how many days Mr. Beale lost it. Why carried $800 bucks around. Anyone could robbed him. If, they don't like using a credit card, put some money in the suit case. The rest in his wallet.
Nice of Karen treating her friends to the movies & paid the ice cream for the kids in the neighborhood.
I wouldn't wave $100 dollars around. Someone could come along & grab it out of Karen's hand. Did Karen put it in her piggy bank or between her bookshelf. Doesn't sound like a good place to put your money between books on your books shelf.
I don't know, why the kids just paid 25 cents to Andrew. It wasn't like 2 bucks. 25 cents is easy earn back. Just bug me. That, they couldn't paid 25 cents to Andrew. We're Karen gave them each a quarter. Which was more than giving a quarter to Andrew.

I haven't read this one before, but just the title sparks this story I have. Just the other day at work, as I was handing back an older gentleman some change, a penny fell from his hand as he was putting the change into his pocket. He bent down, so I figured he was going to pick it up, like almost every other customer I've ever had. However, he takes a look at it and announces that it fell on 'tails'. He then flipped it over to show 'head' and explained, "So whomever picks it up has good luck", bid me goodbye and left. It was pretty cute.

I love when Karen throws a fit because she realizes she has spent all the money.

^ Do you know the story behind that? I guess picking up a penny with the tail facing up is bad luck whereas the head facing up is good luck?

the only story i could find was this: Many people believe it's best to find pennies heads up and that finding and picking up tails up penny is unlucky. This is based on Manichaeism, a system of religious doctrines based on a supposed primordial conflict between light and darkness or goodness and evil. Centuries ago people believed in polar opposites of good and evil, body and soul, dark and light. With coins, specifically the lucky penny, heads were seen as good while tails was seen as evil. Read more: Why Are Pennies Considered Lucky? | eHow.com www.ehow.com/facts_7378309_pennies-considered-lucky_.html#ixzz1l6eow6DCit doesn't explain why the head became the lucky side though.
