I felt so bad for Sam and Charlie when they spent the entire day of the snow day shoveling out driveways. Those boys must be awfully muscly after all that work and sports they do! I liked the name they chose for the business: The Thomas Brothers.
I also liked the subplot where Karen wanted to invite Ms. Colman to dinner. It got me thinking that when I was a kid, I would have been awfully excited and probably acted the same way as Karen. Do you think teachers can really just go to a kid's house and have dinner? There's obviously nothing wrong with that and I'm sure it happens all the time. I just wonder if people would think of favoritism or something (which is stupid for a Grade 2 class because, really, Grade 2 isn't that big of a deal).

My brother was best friends with my kindergarten teacher's son. I didn't get favoritism, but I remember being kinda weirded out when she would come pick him up from our house. Then my sister was a summer nanny for a few years for my sixth grade teacher's kids, and I did get favoritism, and it was crappy. Besides those instances, when I was Karen's age I was freaked out seeing my teachers at the grocery store or somewhere "normal" outside of school. I wouldn't have wanted one of them at my house.

My sister's (least favourite) teacher ended up becoming a client of my dad's business by coincidence, and had to come over with her partner one evening, and my sister was already in her pajamas, and it was very awkward for her.
I was friend's with a girl who's mother used to be my french teacher and taught at the same school, and was also friends with a girl who's mom taught kindergarten at the same school. We didn't really do anything outside of school though we kept in touch sometimes, but it was interesting when one of them came for my birthday party and was getting picked up, though she didn't come to the door.

It's so funny how as kids, we always glamorize our teachers.

It remind me, my snow days, when I was in school. I live in MI. We had wait until it was like over 5 inches of snow, to have snow days.
Has anyone seen the pictures in this book? Their are 3 pictures are so hysterical.
PG 11. You see Karen sitting on her bed, listening to the radio, crossing her fingers. She looks like, she's smoking weed or that pipe thingy (Sorry, don't know, what it is called. Were inhaled it.)
PG 64 You see Nancy, Karen, & little bit of Charlie. Looks like Charlie kidnap Nancy & Karen. The two girls, are wondering, what's going happen next.
PG 86 Karen, tells her mom & her step-dad, that it's snowing outside. Seeing Elizabeth & Seth in doorway is so historical. They look like Zombies or dead person standing in doorway. First time, I saw it, just cracks me up.
Yeah, why didn't the rich people had snow company service, to plow their street. I guess, so Charlie & Sam, can have job that only pays them $2.00 Wooooo How exciting.

Read this one last night. It was quite fitting because today was a Snow Day here! So I could relate to wanting to get a Snow Day the following day and it actually happening. I liked the subplot of Ms Colman coming for dinner but wish more time was spent on it. I can see Karen trying to prepare the dinner more and being very involved in what was happening, asking Ms. Colman what her favorite food and drinks were and making sure they were being served.

Yeah, it would have been nice if she prepared a salad like she learned to do in Karen's Plane Trip. Did she ever do it again? It sounded really delicious

This is one of my very favorite LS. I just read it while waiting for windows to install 38 updates to my new/old (restored) computer. I love when Seth assures Karen that if she gets snowed in at school, that he will "come save the day" and pick her and Nancy up. Seth is so funny and a great dad. The picture of Seth and Lisa on page 86 is quite interesting They both look so much older than they are. I also really liked Elizabeth in this story and how she helped make the day better for Karen and her friends by thinking up a lunch picnic in the living-room. Elizabeth really does come across as a whole lot nicer, maybe because her character is developed more, in the LS than in the BSC. I, of course, have never had a snow day either as a kid or adult. I do remember having a lot of shortened days as a kid due to extreme heat and no a/c at school. I think playing in the snow as a young, active kid would be a whole lot of fun as would enjoying watching it fall now, (from safe and warm indoors) but I don't think I would do well living in it the way a lot of you are. I am happy a lot of you have good memories of snow as a kid. I did read through this thread. Did any of you ever have a teacher over for dinner? I don't think there was ever a teacher I would have wanted at the time to come over for any meal so I was glad Ms. Colman was able to do that for Karen and that she most of the time is a good second grade teacher. I still do wonder why neither Nancy nor Hannie ever mentioned to Karen that they would like Ms. Colman to come over to their house, unless, of course they didn't. Just a thought as I type this in warmth not snow. ETA: I love the mention of Snowbound. I believe in our inconsistency thread it is long since mentioned that Snowbound took place in December whereas in this book that is said to be in Autumn.

This is a cute one. I liked when Ms. Colman and Lisa had to look through their datebooks to coordinate a time when Ms. Colman could come. I would have felt the same as Lisa at first--not wanting to bother Ms. Colman--but kids that age really do look up to their teachers and she was very sweet to come from her house out in the country to eat at Karen's house. The dinner sounded nice (fish and salad).
Never had snow days but we had cold weather days!

My teachers never came visit to our house, I never ask any of my teachers, to come over and have dinner with us. The only time, I saw my 2nd grade teacher was at school or church on Subday's.
So, what's the point of Ms. Colman going to The Engle/Brewer Fanily?
Charlie & Sam, you think they hire more high school students. Like their high school friends. Unless, all they're friends lives in their old town.
My snow days were staying inside, watch tv, play with my toys, or do something else. Sometimes, I went outside, if it wasn't too cold. I used to love making snow angels.

Don't Ms. Colman and Mrs. Engle end up becoming friends and that's why Karen was in her wedding?

^Greer, Ms. Colman was friends with Lisa and Seth. I'm not sure if that included Henry Simmons much before their marriage or not. I would have enjoyed reading about how their friendship developed. I do love that Ms. C came to Karen's for dinner that was very sweet on both ends. I just do wonder if any of the other KIMCC ever invited her over as well.

^I was thinking that as well. Did Hannie, Ricky, Nancy, or any other kids invited Ms Colman to they're house for a visit. Like a dinner or just visit for the evening.
