Did it ever say how old they were? They both pretty much died of old age illnesses. I'm thinking that Boo-Boo was 15+. Watson could have had him a decade before Karen was born. Louie was confusing to me since he was "David Michael's dog."

We know that they got Louie around the same time David Michael was born, I think it was said in book 11. Which would make him seven or maybe a little bit older.
I think Boo-Boo's backstory was in Karen's Movie Star so probably ten years or more. It's been awhile since I had read the book though.

That's what's confusing to me because a 7 year old collie is not very old. A 10 year old cat is not old, either.

Does it definitely say they got Louie when David Michael was a baby? He could have been any age and just became most attached to the new baby.
I have a ten year old mastiff mix. He seems like he's got more good years ahead even though this breed doesn't live very long, so I don't know how Louie could have been only 7 and gotten that sick only from old age.

See, these are my questions! I always assumed that Louie was a puppy when they got him. Was he an adult dog already? Or was he a puppy that they got when Kristy was young? OR did he just have a tragic young death?
My cats all had a significant slowdown when they hit 15. It was like a dimmer switch on a light. They lasted to 17, 16, and one is still going at almost 18.5. I definitely see Boo-Boo as mid-to-late teens with Watson being mindful of his vet care.

I double checked Karen's Black Cat (whatever the title of book 102 was) and it said that Watson had Boo-boo since he was a kitten. Then it said that Watson had him before he met Lisa.
So if I had to guess Boo-Boo was in his mid to late teens. He probably graduated college and was on his own for a little bit. Probably dated Lisa for a couple of years and then Karen's seven in the book. Boo-Boo probably died at 16.

There's a picture of Kristy as a little girl with Louie and baby David Michael in her portrait book. I remember Louie definitely wasn't puppy-sized so he was probably a couple of years old. He was definitely sick when they put him down, so maybe something did happen. My roommate's cat was around 9 years old when he died but he was diagnosed with cancer
