Not a good book to read when you are sick with the stomach flu….. Anyway, I felt so bad for Karen and Andrew in this one. Another example of the adults’ selfishness hurting the kids. I’m really glad that Watson and Lisa seemed to work out better arrangements and become more amicable with the custody by the end of the series. As for the “surprise,” no, Karen shouldn’t have done what she did but I had to laugh because this is something I can see myself doing. So I can’t fault her for it, really. ;D She did know she was wrong after the fact and felt bad for what she had done, I think, but just couldn’t help herself. ;D I really can relate to doing this kind of thing as a kid. And she did liven up the show a bit. ;D

^ Karen has to be the turkey in the thanksgiving play and is a bit upset about that because she wants a special part and is kind of embarrassed so she decides to add "a little something" by doing her own special turkey dance and adding several verses to the song. Everyone loves it and she gets in trouble and knows she shouldn't have done it but just couldn't help herself. ;D As for the thanksgiving thing, the kids have to eat big dinners at both houses, end up missing the parade and end up eating so much that Karen gets sick and throws up (at least not as graphic as Jamie and the mac and cheese) Not a very good summary, sorry. ;D I've been looking for LS books for you, greer. Had my parents print off your list to take to the bookstore yesterday but no luck.

I totally did the eat 'til you barf thing one Thanksgiving...I was quite a bit younger than Karen, though.
I can't understand why they couldn't just alternate major holidays like people do with their parents and in-laws.

I just had a totally random memory about this book, but I remember when I was a kid, looking at Karen's turkey costume on the cover and thinking it was really clever that she wore white tights so that her legs would really look like drumsticks.
...I don't know why I just remembered that.

I thought that Lisa & Seth and Watson & Elizabeth were all selfish in this book, just like they were in Karen's Birthday. I can't believe it took both kids to get sick and throw up for all of them to realize how ungodly selfish they were . Would it've killed any one of them for Karen and Andrew to eat Thanksgiving dinner at one house and then the next day have leftover Turkey or something like that at the other house? Aside from that, this book was pretty good, but I like Karen's Turkey Day a little better ;D.

I agree with you too sweetvalleygirl. I was so mad at the parents for being selfish in this book. It also isn't my favorite Karen Thanksgiving book, I like Turkey day better.

My parents have dragged me to twho different thanksgivings before, and I hate it. Because we go to my fun aunt and uncle's first, and I tend to drink too much, then I go to my mom's side and it's like, in the country and boring and we have to play cards and no one believes me that I don't remember the game from year to year. And I'm always so full and everyone makes me eat and I hate it. So I really feel for Karen in the book.
I did notice, however, that she asked for an olive tray. Is that normal? I didn't like olives until I was an adult.

I still don't like olives. I guess everybody is different and likes different things. I have heard of little kids liking strange foods before.

^ Neither do I. My little cousins, though, love them and have eaten them right out of the jar ever since the time when they were really little. They do the same with pickles, too. It's so gross. Of course, their eating habits and table manners are often worse than the Pike triplets. I won't even go into the story about when the one spit turkey on me at Thanksgiving dinner.....

I like greek olives on greek salad. I can't spell the word that starts with a k or a c, not even close enough for spell check to guess it, so... yeah. But I buy them from the olive bar at meijers by my house. Not from a jar. And it's rare.
I don't like rude obnoxious children who are allowed to be gross.

I loved this one, and how Karen got to show off at the end! I did feel bad for her, having to be the turkey. But she got in trouble, ah well. It's something that I would have liked to do when I was her age and been in that position, but wouldn't have had the guts to! And I agree, the adults were very selfish, making Andrew and Karen have two dinners. Not cool at all!
