They had to have had this problem the last couple years, even if this was the first Thanksgiving that Elizabeth and Watson had been married (which I doubt it was.) What, I wonder, had they done the last years, between when Lisa and Watson got divorced and this Thanksgiving?

What, I wonder, had they done the last years, between when Lisa and Watson got divorced and this Thanksgiving? there probably wasn't a last year. don't forget that almost every book takes place within the same school year!

That's the only thing that seems to continue in the ls series. How many Thanksgivings, Christmases and Halloweens did Karen have in ls? A whole lot. I guess Ann wanted Karen to be frozen in time.

Same as the regular series, though.

this is one of the best bsc books too, I used to wish I could see the play
and does anyone else feel hungry when reading about all the food they were to eat? all the pies and everything?

I felt bad for Karen and Andrew. The adults were so selfish in this book. I liked reading about the food they ate at the big house.

I know. The food descriptions can make a person feel hungry. It's just too bad that Karen ate so much that she couldn't enjoy the food since it sounded delicious.

She could have eaten different things at each house. I would hope Watson wouldn't care if she ate the main entrees at the big house when she just had them at the little house. She should have eaten her olive tray and some pie and called it a day. But Karen wasn't really known for her self control, was she?

Even Lisa told her to save room, but she couldn't.....and actually Karen is the one who told a big house member and a little house member to add more food to the dinners! She asked Nannie for Pecan Pie and Sweet Potatoes (yum!) and Lisa for the olives and apple cider, and the other meals didn't sound that heavy to me when I read them, I think she just took big amounts out of excitement.
Is it just me or were you confused when younger about what the surprise was of the book? The extra verses and karen's dancing, the visiting grandparents, or both?

When re-reading this, I just didn't understand how the roles were divided for the class play. I understand it was for the sake of "fairness", but I do believe that some children are better at others at acting, and in addition, some children wouldn't want a big part in the play -- no matter what. I think that the roles should have been given to the kids who WANTED THEM. For example, if Karen, Nancy, Pamela -- or whoever else -- wants the lead role of Samantha, each of THEIR names would be placed into the hat and drawn for that role. The same goes with all the other roles until whatever is left (probably the least important parts) are divided among the kids left without a role.
Also, I sesned that it was more Watson and Elizabeth's fault -- if anyone is to blame -- of the Thanksgiving Day fiasco. Since Lisa and Seth's family was flying in, they had a bit of a one-up from the Brewer clan who were always at home already, and would be for the entire weekend. Even though they don't have Andrew and Karen as much, they could have made an agreement of "if Karen and Andrew have Thanksgiving with us on Thursday, they can stay an extra day with you next week" or something like that...

Oh, also, Karen wears the dress on the cover of Karen's Wish to Thanksgiving dinner, too!
