Ms C was cool. Why didn't she change her name again? I can't remember.

I wanted to be a teacher after reading all these books and all the fun activities ms. colman did which my teacher's never did with the exception of my 4th grade teacher, but I realized it was hard work when I did it voluntarily for a bit and it wasn't for me.

Ms C was cool. Why didn't she change her name again? I can't remember. I don't remember it ever being mentioned or anyone even questioning it. Girl power, she can do what she wants. Ms. Colman was a cool teacher, but it doesn't seem like they got that much school work done. (Maybe that was why she was so popular. ) I mean, how many special projects does one class need? The only real school work I remember them doing was the spelling bee stuff and when Karen was having math trouble.

they did school work lots of times
Project Jupiter, the May Day project, writing stories and poems for Spring Day, reviewing spelling words with each other, doing math lots of times, some science too.
And it's not that uncommon these days for women to keep their last names after marriage, I guess it's Ann being liberal again.

I'm not sure whether it's still as common to keep your surname, or if that was a trend that's seen its spike. Even my soon-to-be-MD friend is going to change her name when she gets married in March.

Maybe Ms. Colman was fine with her surname and wanted the kids to remember her as that.

I remember there was a kindergarten teacher at my elementary school with the last name Davis, and when she got married she changed her name to something that sounded completely different, and it always threw me. Maybe Ms. Colman just wanted to avoid that sort of thing with her students.

My elementary school principal got married one summer and kept her own last name. She just switched from Miss to Ms. I remember my dad asked me what her new name was since she got married and I told him she didn't change her name. He was peeved about it, like it set a bad example or something? I don't know. That was when I realized my dad's mind was stuck in the 1950s.

It's also possible that she went socially by her husband's name and stuck professionally with Colman. My friend will probably do something of the nature because she's already starting to develop a professional name but she certainly wants to be known as the Mrs. as well!

Yeah, I think she wanted the kids to know that she would always be known as Ms. Colman to them.

I wanted to be a teacher just like Ms. Colman when I would read about it, but mostly cause I wanted to do all the fun and creative projects and have the fun parties. Too bad there is a cirriculum all have to follow with no freedom to have fun with it

Ms. Colman has the freedom of private school!

I don't think private vs. public school had anything to do with it. There are plenty of creative teachers in public schools and I'm sure plenty of duds in private ones.

Suprazz was lamenting an inflexible curriculum which is usually the case in public schools.
