Yeah, that got me wondering too! I think it was because Pamela didn't know how to spell and she didn't want any competition with Karen. In an ls book, Pamela spelled especially wrong and Karen corrected her, so I'm assuming Pamela wasn't a very good speller.

I almost wonder if Pamela is a little like Claudia- not really all that book-smart in a pretty smart family.

^Maybe so, because Pamela's mom writes books and her dad's a dentist, IIRC. And maybe Pamela's sixteen-year-old sister that lets her borrow her perfume is a genius like Janine!

Or maybe Pamela wasn't interested because spelling bees really are lame.

Haha, more likely that I think, but possible she was a bad speller.

LOL, I always liked spelling bees...I remember winning the class bee in fifth grade, but lost when all the 5th and 6th grade classes competed together in the next round.
I just watched that episode of Full House where Stephanie loses the spelling bee to Davey Chu. There are so many Full House eps that make me think of BSC/LS books, and vice versa.

OMG, yes! Both Stephanie and Michelle have similar plotlines as Karen Brewer books. It's kinda funny to see girls in that age range and era acting out Karen's storylines.

I also noticed that in the full house book series. Michelle kind of reminds me of Karen.

I wonder if either side was aware of the other.

I was also a big full house fan during my years as a bsc/little sister fan too and the spelling bee did make me think of karen's prize when I saw that episode for the first time
I also just remembered that stephanie used the word Gigundo in the beginning of this episode!

did anyone else really enjoy the outfit descriptions in this one? i loved how karen always had to find out what color the auditorium walls were so she could wear a matching bow.

^I don't remember that. But I do remember thinking that Karen's outfit on the cover was really cute.

this was the first ghostwritten Karen book. I think that plays a part in her obnoxiousness
