My SIL Heather's birthday is on Christmas Day and she hates it. I'm glad my birthday is nowhere near Christmas.

my boyfriend's birthday is dec 15 and my brother's is january 13 and for both of them it's so hard because i have to think of two presents in such a short time. i'm glad my bday is in july--my presents are spread out.
if my bday was christmas i would probably just celebrate my half birthday. ;D

i have a summer birthday too, and everybody with summer birthdays had to celebrate together on the last day of school. Yeah I also have a summer birthday and my school does that too . Are you talking about the cake on the cover Aln? Because that one always looked good .

I think Karen's classmates could have tried a little harder to enjoy the party instead of just griping about how stupid everything was and how hard it was to think of half a present. Some of the things did sound like fun. Maybe they would have been more into it if she'd invited the whole class and then done all the half- things.
I had a summer birthday so I never got to bring cupcakes to school (my school did not set aside a day for the summer kids to celebrate) except for one year when I brought them on my half-birthday, which is Feb. 4. I was always a little envious of my brother and sister for getting to bring treats. They were always envious because I never once had to go to school on my birthday.

^ Agree about Karen's classmates not trying very hard. Sweetvalleygirl, I think that is the cake. Just know it is the cake (I think it's also described) that I always think of when I think of and read this book. ;D

Yeah I thought that Karen's classmates were extremely un-spirited (for lack of a better word ;D) when it came time to this party too, especially the whole thing about half a present. I couldn't understand why they were complaining about it. I thought it sounded like fun .

I thought the kids were bratty about some things. Whining that they only got a half filled goody bag, for example. I agree with them about stopping all the games half way though. That would have been annoying especially if they stopped before you got your turn.
Ms. Colman shouldn't allow party invites to be given out at school. It sucks for the people not invited. Of course everyone would have found out about it anyway, but still. I can't believe she didn't make an everyone or no one rule for Valentine's Day cards either. You'd think she'd be more conscious about kids getting left out.
That first letter Karen wrote on the board was more eloquent than anything most of the BSC could ever write. Her grammar skills are better than some of the people who post on this board.

^Most schools have a policy (or an unwritten one) that says that invitations aren't to be distributed unless all the children in the class are invited.
not sure my opinion on Valentines; I can see it either way although when I was in school it was always that we gave them to everyone.

Re:Valentines. I just think for stuff being held inside the school during a school day with all the students in attendance then it should be an all or nothing thing. My school was, but I guess teachers can do what they want to do.

My birthday is on Valentines Day. I actually like it beacuse it's not a huge holiday like Christmas. My mom says that I might get jipped when I get married though('cause he might say, "Oh, this is for Valentines Day AND your birthday!") ^ At the same time, your future DH can't forget when your birthday is! Never though about that! That's one good thing!

I usually wear my holiday themed socks all year too! I liked Karen's birthday better than this one too, Karen was just being creative about the half b-day.

The cakes in the birthday parties always sounded good! I like this book and will read it again shortly.

Karen's half birthday made it sound like being a guest at a half birthday party sucks since you would you get half of anything or do half of anything. Some of her classmates could've tried a little harder since it seems like they decided to not have fun at her party even before they arrived.

I enjoy reading this book. My half birthday is Feb 15th. My dad's birthday is on Dec. 16th. So, he's really close to Christmas. I don't make big deal out of it. My dad does. He'll tell me every year, today is my half birthday & sometimes will tell me, today is my quarter birthday. (I think, it's sometime in spring.) On my birthday. Will tell me. I'm officially 29. @ 1:49pm Guests & Karen's family: Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you. Hap-
Karen: Cut the cake!!
too funny. This book made me giggle.
