In conservative circles we like to think of families as much as units as possible and even shy away from the term "teens" b/c of all the negative expectations the culture has of them. So it's laudable to me to see IRL older children and younger, teens, adults, all mixing together.

Waaaaa waaaaa! *sad trombone noises*
It kind of reminds me of the noise that would happen on Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego, when the kid would get the question wrong on the map challenge.

It reminded me of Karen's Tuba at the big house

No playground weddings happened at my school. A boy in third grade did tell me I was going to have his babies. He's probably in jail now. Bwahaha! This made me laugh. This was a pretty good LS book. I liked that there was a lot going on. The part about Pamela's birthday was more interesting to me than the part about the wedding. I was indifferent to Karen in the BSC series, and maybe thought she was a bit annoying, but my view on her completely changed when reading the LS series. I love her! I thought it was hilarious how she gave Pamela those crappy bracelets. To be fair to Pamela, Karen's never really that much better than her (in terms of how they treat each other). A Pamela spin-off would have been interesting!

Karen felt bad after seeing everyone get her nice presents and when she got the nice lootbag (I loved that part and wanted one), but her mom should have made her get something else with the bracelets and was attempting to.

I felt bad for Natalie in the book. Why didn't Ms. Colman make sure every kid gave every other kid a Valentine? I've always had to do that. This way no one feels left out. Things like that can really lower a kid's self esteem.
I love how it's Emily's first trip to McDonalds and she doesn't eat a thing...
I thought it was pretty sweet how Pamela's parents made her invite the entire class. Maybe the Hardings aren't all bad!?
Pamela's birthday is in February. This sounds weird but I like knowing when character's have birthdays.

Well I guess they did it because she was a new girl in Stoneybrook and some parents want their kids to have more than a few friends. Mine were like that though I don't agree with it if you're stable with the few friends you have. They let me invite who I want, but would get worried if I played alone too much or was with the same friends all the time and would make me feel bad about it.
I also agree with the rule for giving cards to everyone, but by grade 2 or 3 from my experience, I remember teachers didn't force giving cards to every classmate, and with Grade 4 and after, we didn't even make valentine bags though we could still exchange them and that was the time people only gave them to those they wanted to.

I haven't read this one in ages. I'll have to read it soon, since Valentine's Day is around the corner!

Our teachers sent home class lists and you didn't have to give Valentines (everyone did though) but if you did, you had to give one to everybody.
Pamela's party sounds really fun (except for the scary clown roaming around.) I actually felt a little bad for Karen because she was the only one who gave a crap present. I know she made the decision, but all of her friends' parents made them give appropriate gifts. I wonder why Lisa didn't just let Karen skip the party, instead of making her go but then letting her buy the cheap bracelets and wear her old clothes.

^ Yeah, I was also surprised at Lisa allowing Karen to give Pamela the dollar store bracelets. As a kid, I was aware that parents also have a reputation with other adults. Didn't Lisa realize that was a little chintzy? She was married to a millionaire, after all!

No longer married to Watson, after all. Would Lisa & Seth have expected to get to know Pamela's parents?
